It took the Shasta Wolves less time to dispatch Las Plumas in Tuesday’s Northern Section Division II baseball quarterfinal than it did for the Thunderbirds to drive to Redding from Oroville.Simon Turner tossed six innings of one hit ball and Jordan Chabolla wiggled out of a seventh-inning jam to preserve a 2-0 win for the Wolves in 80 minutes. The win secures a semifinal date with No. 1 seed Pleasant Valley on Friday.

Baseball playoff seeding announced for Divisions II and III

Hoping to spoil Red Bluff’s annual baseball title trek is, among others, Foothill.  The Cougars (18-9, 9-6 Eastern Athletic League) earned the third seed in the postseason and host No. 6 Chico at 7 p.m. in the single-elimination opening round. A Foothill win earns a three-game set with No. 2 Red Bluff (17-9, 10-5 EAL).
