If there’s to be another North State magical state-title run like last year’s Mount Shasta boys team, it’ll likely come from a “road warrior.”
In Shasta County, only four teams earned first round home games – Fall River boys and the West Valley, U-Prep and Redding Christian girls.
The Eagles are the No. 1 seed in Division V after their 29-26 Northern Section Division IV win over U-Prep. West Valley hosts No. 16 Le Grand on Tuesday. The Bulldogs from outside of Merced lost the Sac-Joaquin D-V semifinals.
The CIF seeds teams based on a competitive equity model, meaning a team’s section division might be different at the state level. All playoff coverage is presented by Redding Rancheria.
U-Prep earned the four-seed and hosts No. 13 Golden Sierra at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The second-seeded Grizzlies lost to No. 1 Colfax in the Sa-Joaquin D-V finals.
The Redding Christian girls earned a No. 2 seed in the NorCal Division VI postseason (there is no state title at that level) and hosts No. 7 Tomales on Wednesday.
On the boys side, Fall River, which fell to Weed in the Northern Section D-VI finals, earned a No. 3 seed in the NorCal D-VI playoffs and hosts No. 6 St. Bernard’s of Eureka on Wednesday. Weed earned the No. 1 seed and hosts No. 8 South Fork on Wednesday.
Elsewhere, all the other Shasta County teams which qualified for state play were sent packing.
In Division III boys, No. 11 Foothill earned an 11-seed and travels Tuesday to Salinas to play No. 6 Palma.
In Division IV boys, U-Prep earned a No. 9 seed, despite winning a section crown, and travels to No. 8 Brookside Christian on Tuesday.
In Division IV girls, No. 10 Enterprise travels to No. 7 Cloverdale of the North Coast Section on Tuesday.
