On Monday, the U-Prep senior made his mark in all of Northern California.
Stephens shot a 2-under 70 to tie for fourth place at the CIF Northern California Regional boys golf championships at El Macero County Club near Davis.
He recorded five birdies on his round, birdying the first and 18th hole, mixing in a birdie on back-to-back holes at No. 6 and No. 7. He finished with a 34-36–70, earning him the sixth individual qualifier and advancing to the CIF State Championships on May 29 at Poppy Hills Golf Course at Pebble Beach.
Stephens led U-Prep, which is coming off a Northern Section team title. U-Prep was 61-over par for a 421 on the day, good enough for 11th out of 12 teams. Northern Section foe Pleasant Valley was 10th with a 57-over 417.
U-Prep’s Tanner Stephens shot a 9-over 81 for 62nd overall, Brennan Mullen shot a 15-over 87 for 76th, Trevor Jones (91) was 81st, Todd Mehr (92) was 82nd and Marcus Serna-Prettyman (100).
Foothill’s Caleb Martin finished 45th overall at 5-over 77.
Other NSCIF competitors included PV’s Chase Fleshman (73), Drew Stilwell (82), Landon Williams (84), Jack Drakulic (89), Kiefer Zelenski (89) and Jaxon Bonneau (94).
Red Bluff’s Kurtis Rodriguez was 28th (75) and Chico’s Brayden Russo was 43rd (77).
