Twelve Shasta County wrestlers have reached the semifinals after the opening day of the Northern Section Masters wrestling championships on Thursday at the Redding Civic Auditorium. Another 27 are still alive in the consolation bracket with 1-1 records. Among the semifinalists are top-seeds Rocky Raby of West Valley at 132 pounds and Earnest Wilson of Foothill at 145 pounds.
Chico leads the team scores with 89 points. Sutter (82 points), Corning (59), Durham (57) and Foothill and Orland (53 each) round out the top six.
Other Shasta County teams include West Valley (7th, 50 points), Shasta (9th, 37.5), Central Valley (10th, 33), Anderson (11th, 31), U-Prep (19th, 17), Fall River (32nd, 3), and Burney and Enterprise are tied for 33rd with one point each.

The top four seeds have all advanced to the semifinals. Foothill freshman Keaton Brilz is one of those after recording two first-round pins with a 45-second fall over Fall River’s Andrew Parker and a fall at 1:02 over Paradise’s Kevin Porter. Brilz faces Sutter’s Brody Dollins in the semis. The other half of the bracket features Orland’s Liam Nelson and Hamilton’s Jose Mendez.
Consolation: Enterprise’s Paoge Vang is 1-1, losing to Nelson and beating Red Bluff’s Tristan Vaillete 8-2. Anderson’s Amir Perkins lost to Chico’s Kyron Smith 14-12 and won by fall over Wheatland’s Isaac Gandy in 3:30. Fall River’s Parker came back to win his second match to stay alive, a pin in 2:05 over West Valley’s Mason Simmons.
All four top seeds went 2-0 to move on to the semis: Sutter’s Jimmy Heryford, Lassen’s Chase Montgomery, Red Bluff’s AJ Strole and Durham’s Yousuf Zigan, respectively.
Shasta’s Kody Muse is 1-1 with a 5-4 decision over Etna’s Leif Graves and Anderson’s Billy Smith pinned U-Prep’s Everett Miyasato in 20 seconds to advance in the consolation.
West Valley’s Conner Edwards, the No. 2 seed, is in the semifinals after winning his first-round match by forfeit and his quarterfinal match by default over Willows David Gonzalez. The other top three seeds are in the semis with Sutter’s Billy Thorton facing off against Paradise’s Stetson Morgan and Edwards facing Quincy’s Russel Nickerson.
Central Valley’s Mitchell Harrison advanced in the consolation round by forfeit and faces Tulelake’s Ezequiel Zuniga.
Shasta’s Aaron Bailey, CV’s Matt Pendleton and Anderson’s James Canfield are all still alive in the consolation bracket after winning their first match but losing their second. Bailey pinned Oroville’s Damien Allen in 40 seconds by lost by fall in 3:36 to Modoc’s Chance Galvin. Pendleton won by fall over West Valley’s Chance Brace in 3:55 before being pinned by Pleasant Valley’s Jake Mora in 1:31. Canfield won by fall in 3:33 over Willows’ Anthony Ngo and lost to Gridley’s Dallas Stevens by fall in 1:45.
Top-seed Callum Kremer of Chester is also in the semis and will face Galvin while the other semifinal is Mora against Stevens.
West Valley’s Rocky Raby, the top seed, won both matches by fall to advance to the semis. He pinned Oroville’s Billy Vollendroff in 1:30 and Corning’s Connor Hernandez in 45 seconds. Foothill’s Jake Bergstrom, the No. 3 seed, pinned Hayden Bartlett in 1:32 and won a major decision 12-2 over Durham’s Zane Kowalkowski. Raby will face Sutter’s Brady Thorton and Bergstrom faces Chico’s Alex Rudkin in the semis.
Shasta’s Josiah Torculas lost his first match but pinned Bartlett in 59 seconds to advance in the consolation round. CV’s Nathan Sanchez lost his first match and won by fall in 3:12 over Live Oak’s Zeke Gil.
All four tops seeds moved on to the semifinals: Chico’s Mere Chavez, Trinity’s Jamison Mcknight, Chester’s Bonner Montgomery and Orland’s Cameron Garrison.
West Valley’s Dominic Sweeny went 1-1 on the day with a first-round win by fall in 1:11 over Sutter’s David Preciado before losing to Montgomery by major decision 14-3. Shasta’s Jeremiah Fournier won a 6-0 decision over Corning’s Frank Gregorio before losing a 15-3 major decision to Garrison.
Top-seeded Earnest Wilson of Foothill pinned his way to the semifinals with a 38-second pin over Live Oak’s Paul Luna before winning by fall in 3:22 over Paradise’s Wade Patten. Others in the semis are PV’s Alex Pimentel, who upset No. 2 seed Trent Sonsteng of Durham with a 7-4 decision in the quarterfinals. Esparto’s Isaac Lawrence is in the semis and faces Wilson while Pimentel squares off against Orland’s Conner Garrison in the other semifinal.
In consolation, West Valley’s Jesse Kenyon lost his first match but won by fall in 4:04 over Sutter’s Zanden Rockenstein. CV’s Chris Lewallen lost his first match but won by fall at 4:00 over Gridley’s Jaden Taylor.
One local is guaranteed the final match with Foothill’s Corey Williford and Shasta’s Aydin Facey reaching the finals as the second and third seeds, respectively. Facey won a 20-5 technical fall over Trinity’s Alex McIntosh and a 7-3 decision over Logan Ross of Central Valley to get to the semis. Williford, won both his matches by fall, the first at 3:05 over Durham’s Noah Pettit and the second in 1:44 over Orland’s Ben Fernandez.
Top-seeded JT Stinson of East Nicolaus is in the semis and faces Corning’s Chase Aulabaugh. CV’s Ross is in the consolation round after winning his first match by fall in 1:05 over U-Prep’s Conner Christensen before losing to Facey.
West Valley’s Jacob Johnston, the No. 4 seed, lost a 9-2 decision to Orland’s Benicio Martinez in the quarterfinals. Johnston won by fall in 4:33 over Wheatland’s Cameron Thomas. The other top three seeds are in the semis with Sutter’s Zach Hancock (1), Chico’s Zach Soto (2) and Corning’s Tristan Bailey (3).
Johnston faces Foothill’s Leo DeLeon, who lost his first match before winning by fall in 2:35 over Live Oak’s Asad Khan. CV’s Christian Maughs won his first match with a 7-3 decision over Chester’s Tanner Rogers but lost to Soto in the quarterfinals.
West Valley’s Mateo Redfern and U-Prep’s Aiden McFadden pinned their ways to the semifinals where they’ll square off against each other to guarantee a local finalist.
McFadden, the No. 2 seed, pinned Modoc’s Alex Olsen in 3:10 and Chico’s Josh Ortega in 3:11. Redfern won by fall in 1:18 over Paradise’s Hunter Timm and pinned Corning’s Devin Toth in 5:39. The No. 1 and 4 seeds – Durham’s Ethan Ownby and Red Bluff’s Seth Miller – are the other semifinalists.
Foothill’s Jodeah Wilson is 1-1 in the consolation, winning by fall in 1:50 over Trinity’s Tristan Senter before losing to Miller.
Anderson’s Cody Crawford reached the semifinals as the No. 2 seed. Crawford pinned U-Prep’s Ryan Hart in 1:59 to open the tournament and won a 8-0 major decision over Big Valley’s Garrett Schmitt. He’ll face No. 3 seed Nick Biaggio of Corning. The other semifinal matchup is Chico’s Bobby McCoy and East Nicolaus’ Zach McLenna – the other top two seeds.
Three Shasta County grapplers are still alive in the consolation round. West Valley’s Cade Lambert won his first match by fall in 1:32 over Orland’s Hayden Canalla but was pinned in 47 seconds to McLenna. Hart won his consolation match in 41 seconds over Fall River’s Kris Mason and Shasta’s Derek Lord followed his first loss with a 9-4 decision victory over Quincy’s Shelton Martinez.
All four seeds reached the finals, including Shasta’s Jacob Watt (#3). Watt pinned Anderson’s Isaiah Mitchell in 46 seconds and won by fall in 3:30 over West Valley’s Hunter Amen. Watt faces Sutter’s Max Gipson in the semis with the other semifinal matchup being Big Valley’s Reagan Dahle (the top seed) and Chico’s Wyatt Bartsch.
CV’s Maxwell Beckham lost his first match but won his second, pinning Oroville’s Derek Chaney in 47 seconds. West Valley’s Amen won his first match with a 6-0 decision over Winters’ Dylan Adams but lost to Watt to drop to the consolation. U-Prep’s Adam Bellingham lost his first match but won by fall in 2:48 over Etna’s Wyatt Jones.
All chalk at 220s with the top four seeds all advancing: Jacob Christensen of Durham, Mark Sulzer of Red Bluff, Travis Tedder of Sutter and Dillon Bailey of Corning. Christian and Bailey square off in one semi and Sulzer and Tedder in the other.
Foothill’s Jacob Schafer lost his first match but advanced in the consolation with a pin of Gridley’s Miko Montero in 1:25. Shasta’s Austin Brinton pinned Schafer in 3:47 in the opening round before losing to drop to consolation.
The top four heavyweights are all in the semis, one Shasta County competitor on each side of the bracket. Second-seeded Joe Carrillo of Anderson won by fall in 1:20 over Modoc’s Cody Sphar and pinned Hamilton’s Xavier Hernandez in 37 seconds. CV’s Briston Luschinski needed 20 seconds to pin Oroville’s Eric Torres and won by fall in 1:28 against Live Oak’s Jon Widener.
Shasta’s Gianni Palacio is still alive in the consolation, losing his first match and following it up with a pin of Torres in 3:55.
