James Weaver has a few more River Bowls to play. He made sure his first one was a memorable one.
The Shasta sophomore wing ran for two touchdowns and caught two more as the Wolves extended their River Bowl streak to four straight with a 47-10 win in the Redding Rancheria Game of the Week.
Weaver finished the night with 94 yards rushing and another 43 yards receiving for a total of four touchdowns. For his efforts, Weaver is this week’s Tri Counties Bank Player of the Game.
“(Weaver’s) unstoppable,” said senior wing Brayden Coon, who turned three catches into 140 yards. “When he gets older as a senior he’s going to be insane. He really is a team player, not selfish at all, works hard in practice, is a great leader and good kid and does his work in the classroom.”
Weaver has already had a taste of the big stage when he was called up to varsity as a freshman for the Wolves’ state title run last season, playing in the championship loss to Bishop Diego when Seth Park couldn’t go due to a rub injury.
On Friday, the sophomore exploded for scores on a 9-yard run, a 42-yard blast and two second-half receiving TDs from quarterback Brian Kilgore.
