Tri Counties Bank Girls Basketball Team of the Week: West Valley Eagles

West Valley's Madalynn Bassett, seen last year against Branson, picked up where she left off during her MVP season as a sophomore. New year, same Eagles.

The West Valley Eagles got its delayed 2020-21 girls basketball season underway last week with a resounding 48-29 win over upper-division foe Red Bluff. Under new coach Eric Proscher, the Eagles are the Tri Counties Bank Girls Basketball Team of the Week.

Last year’s Shasta County Sports Girls MVP Madalynn Bassett showed there’s no junior slump, pouring in 15 in the victory. Morgan Montgomery added 10 for the Eagles, who take on Chico on Monday in another upper division test.

The Eagles had a game wiped off the schedule last week when Northern Athletic League opponent U-Prep bowed out due to COVID precautions. With the uncertain nature of the shortened basketball season, getting games in and making the most out of them is paramount for teams this season.

West Valley (1-0) had a run for the ages last season, getting to the Northern California Division V finals. The Eagles fell 57-48 to Branson.
