Tri Counties Bank Girls Basketball Team of the Week: West Valley Eagles

They capped Northern Athletic League play unblemished, have two losses this calendar year – both to upper division foes – and sit No. 2 in the Northern Section Division IV playoffs awaiting a Thursday home game against Oroville or Pierce.

The West Valley girls basketball team is on quite the roll and ended the regular season with double-digit wins over Central Valley and Yreka to end NAL play 10-0 and enter the postseason as one of the hottest teams in the section. Dub-V Nation is again the Tri Counties Bank Girls Basketball Team of the Week.

WV started the week with a 52-36 win over Central Valley that saw Jasee Heacock lead all scorers with 14 points. Nine girls scored in the victory over the Falcons.

The Eagles capped the week – and regular season – with a 21-point Senior Night win over Yreka as Maddie Steele paced WV with 11 and sophomore Lexi Proscher added 10.

West Valley has four players – Maddie Bassett (10.7), Heacock (7.8), Steele (6.7) and Proscher (5.7) averaging better than 5 points per contest and have a great blend of youth and experience with Steele being the lone senior in the top scorers.

How far the Eagles advance in the postseason will likely be up to those four along with seniors Faith Cramer and Rose Matthews and junior Hannah Wayne. But a title matchup against No. 1 Willows would be worth the price of admission.
