As a freshman on varsity, the expectations can be lofty. U-Prep’s Jordan McCoy seems to be balancing expectation and performance just fine in the early part of the Panthers’ basketball season.

McCoy dropped 22 points, including four 3-pointers, as she led U-Prep to a tournament title in Corning and MVP honors.

She’s also the Tri Counties Bank Girls Basketball Player of the Week.

U-Prep coach Steve Schuster said McCoy is learning on the job and that “She’s got a huge ceiling.”

In addition to the Corning tournament, McCoy lead the Panthers to a single-game win over the Cardinals at home, a game they played without sharpshooter Madi Friebel. Schuster was pleased with her effort, while also recognizing McCoy will make mistakes along the way as she progresses and gets better, saying ““We’re shooting to be a team that’s good in February and March and we’ve got a ways to go.”

Judging from McCoy’s week last week, the Panthers are in good hands going forward.

McCoy also earns a free drink coupon from Black Rose Coffee & Tea, a sponsor for the Player of the Week for the Boys & Girls Basketball season.
