Tri Counties Bank Boys Basketball Team of the Week: Enterprise Hornets

If there’s one thing we’ve found out this season: the Enterprise boys team can get up for rivalry games. The Hornets are 4-2 this season against their district rivals with the lone loss coming to Foothill in the first round of Eastern Athletic League play.

Other than that, Jim Deaver’s bunch has handled Shasta three times and dealt Foothill a revenge 51-50 loss on Friday at Manatowa Gymnasium. The victory was enough to earn the Hornets Tri Counties Bank Boys Basketball Team of the Week honors.

And while some of it is that Enterprise avenged its loss to Foothill — the Cougars played near-perfect ball in dismantling the Hornets 63-42 – the other part is how the Black and Gold do it. Most nights, opponents know they’re in for a 32-minute, break-neck dogfight and at best they’ll see five, perhaps six, Hornets all night.

The ironman core of Demarreya Lewis-Cooper, Jermaine Mondaine, Gage Owen, Brennan Ramirez and Kobe Fuller (Cody Crane also gets in to battle a big in the paint) are tireless and relentless in their offensive attack and their defensive pressure. Make no mistake, what they do with five guys going almost the whole game isn’t normal, but the EHS 5 are well-conditioned, believe in the system and make you work night in, night out.

And if it’s a “Big Game” like a Foothill or Shasta, you can bet they’re even more hyped.
