Ashlee Lewis banked in a six-footer for the go-ahead bucket with 36 seconds left to lift West Valley High’s girls basketball team to a 37-35 road victory to not only spoil U-Prep’s homecoming night but prevent the Panthers from clinching the NAL title.

Girls Basketball Team of the Week: U-Prep Panthers

The U-Prep girls basketball team is sitting at 5-1 in Northern Athletic League play heading into a tough three-game week that culminates with a showdown against West Valley, also 5-1 in league.

Last week, the Panthers did a good job of TCB (taking care of business) in NAL play, getting a tough home overtime win over Lassen and a road win against a CV team that’s not faring well in league but is vastly improved. U-Prep girls come alive in third quarter to down Corning 56-45

The U-Prep girls basketball team had hit three field goals in the first half Monday in a home game against Corning. But the Panthers had been buoyed by 20 trips to the free throw line, hitting 12. As such, Steve Schuster’s squad trailed 25-19 at intermission.

The Panthers found their offense and used a third-period spurt to pass and pull away from the Cardinals in a 56-45 preseason win.
