Anderson boys, Shasta girls win inaugural Toys4Tots games

The Anderson boys basketball team left the Harlan Carter Gym holly and jolly on Thursday after coming away with a 58-55 win over Shasta in the inaugural Toys4Tots game. The Shasta girls earned a win in the evening’s varsity opener with a 47-42 victory over Big Blue.

The night was a benefit for the Marine Corps Toys4Tots campaign as fans were given free entrance to all four games – jv boys and girls played earlier in the afternoon. The bins in the foyer of the gym were overflowing before the start of the boys game.

Astro Jump Boys basketball Team of the Week: Anderson Cubs

Down 11 to its rival, things weren’t looking goof for Anderson in Saturday’s title game of the Cubs’ own tournament. But Big Blue dialed up the defense, chipped away on offense and got the winning play at the buzzer to beat West Valley 38-37 and the Shasta County Sports’ Boys basketball Team of the Week honors in the process.

Anderson boys get last-second bucket to down rival West Valley, win Anderson Tournament

The play was an isolation for Anderson’s Christian Teague. When it didn’t work out that way, Teague was still the game-decider as the junior found the rebound off a Jesse Brophy last-second 3-pointer and hit the putback as time expired to lift the Cubs to a 38-37 win over rival West Valley in Saturday’s title game of the Anderson Tournament.
