Tri Counties Bank Girls Basketball Player of the Week: Jadyn Matthews, Enterprise

Death, taxes and Jadyn Matthews – some things are just reliable. The Enterprise senior again put up monster numbers helping the Hornets to clinch the Eastern Athletic League title last week with a road win over Pleasant Valley.

Matthews dropped 32 in the 64-59 victory over the Vikings, the reigning section champions. She followed that up with a 22 and 11 night in a 65-55 win over Red Bluff. Her efforts earned Matthews the Tri Counties Bank Girls Basketball Player of the Game honors for Week 10. It’s the second consecutive week she’s grabbed the honor and the fourth time this season.

Girls Basketball Team of the Week: Enterprise Hornets

To be the best, you’ve got to beat the best. As cliche as it seems, it’s a rallying cry for many teams seeking the heights of their sport.

The Enterprise Hornets took a step toward that axiom with their Eastern Athletic League win Friday over Pleasant Valley, last year’s Division II state runner up. And while this year’s Vikings team is different from last year’s squad, PV beat Enterprise last season in the Northern Section Division III finals and the Hornets want to be in the Vikings’ shoes this year.

You don’t have to be a die-hard hoop head to be able to make a case for Jadyn Matthews to win the Tri Counties Bank Girls Basketball Player of the Week nearly every week. The Enterprise senior is next level in the Northern Section, leading in scoring and at the top of most other statistical categories. She’s the first two-time winner of the Shasta County Sports weekly honor.
