Foothill outlasts Shasta for 72-67 overtime win

The Shasta Wolves played 30 minutes of pretty good basketball Tuesday against Foothill. Problem is, including the overtime period, the game lasted 36 minutes.

Foothill (18-7, 5-2 Eastern Athletic League took advantage of ice-in-the-veins free throw shooting late, five players in double figures and a few bad possessions by the Wolves to come away with a 72-67 EAL win at the Cougars’ Palace.

Foothill outmuscles Shasta for a 65-53 road league win

There’s a 1954 book called “How to Lie with Statistics.” The premise is that numbers can, at times, be distorted and twisted to tell half-truths and partial stories.

There was no stretching the truth Thursday to the fact that the stat sheet said the Foothill boys basketball team outrebounded Shasta 36-18 in a 65-53 Eastern Athletic League win at Harlan Carter Gym. The other telling stat was that the Cougars made as many free throws as the Wolves had boards.

Josiah Hutt named Harlan Carter MVP after Cougars take boys title

It might have been a defining moment in his four-year varsity basketball career. Josiah Hutt, the unquestioned on-court leader of the Foothill Cougars, did not start Saturday’s championship game of the Harlan Carter Invitational. He and a teammate were late and for Cougars’ coach Bill Elliott, rules are rules.
