Saturday, March 22

Redding Christian 18, Happy Camp 6 (6)
The Lions earned their first win of the season, recording 14 stolen bases  and 12 hits. Jackson Black was the winning pitcher and he finished with 11 strikeouts, two walks and allowing three earned runs on four hits in a complete game. Clark Smith was 3 for 4 with a home run, three RBIs and four runs, Wyatt Hughes was 3 for 5 with a double, triple, three RBIs and a run, Jonah Osborne was 1 for 4 with three RBIs and Carson Piper scored three times.

U-Prep 5, St. Bernard’s 1
The Panthers improved to 8-8 on the season with a win over the Crusaders in the ACA Tournament at Big League Dreams.

Friday, March 22

Prep baseball

West Valley 4, Anderson 0
The Eagles’ Johnny Ross got the win over the Cubs in the ACA Tournament on Friday, striking out six, walking six and allowing two hits in six scoreless innings. Caden Duenas pitched a scoreless seventh for the save. West Valley had six hits, two from Duenas as part of his 2 for 4 day with a pair of RBIs, and Tyler Chan was 2 for 3 with a run. Hayden Boyes was 1 for 3 with a run and five stolen bases and Ross and Brock Taylor each drove in a run.

Fall River 10, Weed 0 (6)
The Bulldogs scored four in the bottom of the first and rolled the rest of the way. Gavin Dobson threw a complete game shutout, striking out 10 and allowing three hits for the win. He was also 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI, two stolen bases and two runs, Jaron Barrios was 2 for 4 with three RBIs and a run and Luke Boyes scored twice.

Prep softball

Central Valley 8, Willows 7
The Falcons gave up four runs in the top of the seventh but rallied to win with two runs in the bottom half of the frame to earn their first win of the year.

Redding Christian sweeps Weed in doubleheader
The Lions beat the Cougars 14-2 and 17-2 on Friday. In the first game, Allee Addams got the win in the circle, striking out five and walking one in five innings. She allowed three hits and one run. Calley Rupert was 4 for 4 with a home run, two RBIs and four runs scored, Ellie Smith was 3 for 3 with a double and three RBIs, Emma Clark and Courtney Jones each had two hits and an RBI and Aleah Matos, Adams and Gloria Leung each drove in two runs. Redding Christian improves to 4-0.

In the second game, Clark struck out three, walked one and gave up two unearned runs in five innings to earn the win. Matos was 5 for 5 with seven RBIs, Smith was 3 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs, Avery Marshall was 2 for 4 with an RBI and three runs, Rupert was 3 for 3 with a triple and five runs scored, and Courtney Jones as 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run.

Thursday, March 21

Stephens leads U-Prep in NAL match
Mark Stephens shot a 36-31–67 at the opening Northern Athletic League match of the year on Thursday at Tierra Oaks Country Club. Stephens had three birdies and an eagle on the back nine. Marcus Serna-Prettyman had a pair of birdies on the back nine as well, shooting 40-43–83. The rest of U-Prep’s team included Brennan Mullen (46-48–94), Justin McCandless (50-52–102) and Trevor Jones (54-50–104).

U-Prep splits at ACA Tourney
U-Prep beat Hamilton 14-0 and lost to Reedsport 2-0 to sit at 6-8 on the season.

Fall River 14, Redding Christian 1
The Bulldogs are 5-1 on the season and the Lions are winless at 0-4.

West Valley 17, Hamilton 1 (6)
The Eagles racked up 23 hits and scored seven runs through the first two frames, putting up 10 in the sixth to end it.  Jared Hummell was 5 for 5 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs, Hayden Boyes was 3 for 4 with an RBI and three runs, Johnny Ross was 4 for 5 with a home run, two RBIs and three runs, Hayden Montgomery was 3 for 5 with two doubles, three RBIs and one run and Brock Taylor was 2 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and three runs. Bayden Frank was the winning pitcher, striking out three and walking one across three hitless innings.

Reedsport 10, West Valley 0
The Eagles managed only one hit from Hayden Boyes, who was 1 for 2 with a double.

Prep softball

Red Bluff 6, Foothill 2
The Spartans took the lead with a five-run fourth inning and went on to win. All six Red Bluff hits came from different players with Faith Tatro recording two RBIs and Bailey Diggs hitting a double and scoring a run.

Tuesday, March 19

Prep baseball

Nevada Union 10, Enterprise 3
The Hornets gave up five runs in the first two innings to lose on the road.

Burney 12, Redding Christian 9
The Raiders scored 11 of their 12 runs in the first three innings and hung on to win. Skyler Ragsdale was 3 for 4 with five RBIs, Chris Semer was 3 for 3 with three RBIs and three runs and Nathan Doughtery was 2 for 4 with three runs and an RBI. Semer got the win on the mound.

Karson Molter was 2 for 3 with three runs, Josh Checha was 2 for 2 with an RBI and a run and Jonah Osborne was 2 for 3 with two runs.

Red Bluff 9, Foothill 4
The Spartans were led by Sevee Johnson, who was 3 for 3 with an RBI and two runs and Tyler Schorovsky had a hit and scored twice. Lucas Arvig took the win, allowing two unearned run on three hits in 5.1 innings.

Red Bluff 15, Foothill 5 (6)
The Spartans scored four runs in the bottom of the six to win by the mercy-rule. Bryce Tweedt was 2 for 3 with an RBI and three runs, Andrew Allen was 2 for 4 with two runs, Austin Keffer had two RBIs and Blake Tweedt was 2 for 3 with a three RBIs and a run.

Etna 10, U-Prep 0 (5)
The Panthers lost to the Lions, managing only three hits — one each from Ashley Rauch, Izzy Lannon and Kaylie McDaniel.

Redding Christian 8, Burney 7 (8)
The Lions scored twice in the top of the eighth and held off a rally from the Raiders to win. Allee Adams was 2 for 3 with two runs and three stolen bases, Aleah Matos was 1 for 3 with a double and a run, Avery Marshall was 1 for 4 with two RBIs and Calley Rupert was 1 for 4 with two RBIs and a run. Adams got the win, striking out one and allowing seven runs — four earned — on seven hits in the complete game.

Redding Christian improves to 2-0 and Burney drops to 4-5.

Monday, March 18

Prep baseball

Shasta 3, Enterprise 1
The Wolves beat the Hornets to improve to 3-0-2 on the season and the Hornets drop to 4-4-1.

West Valley 13, Orland 2 (6)
The Eagles scored seven runs in the top of the sixth to end the game early over the Trojans. Caden Duenas was 2 for 4 with an RBI, Johnny Ross was 2 for 2 with a double, four RBIs and a run, CJ Van Sickle was 1 for 1 with an RBI and a run, Jared Hummell was 2 for 4, Brock Taylor was 2 for 3 with two runs, Tyler Chan was 2 for 2 with an RBI and two runs, and Wyatt Reginato was 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a run.
