Shasta County Sports Report: Jan. 5-12

Here’s a daily recap of prep sports action around Shasta County reported to MaxPreps or the SCS staff. We will update the scores and highlights daily (with the newer games on the top). We invite coaches to send in scores and game information at shastacountysports@gmail.com.

Friday, Jan. 10

Prep girls basketball

Enterprise 63, Foothill 55
The Hornets trailed 55-54 with 1:42 left and finished the game on a 9-0 run to win the EAL opener on the road against the Cougars. Alissa Terras scored a team-best 22 points on five 3-pointers while Natalie Mendes scored 14 points and Mianna Saechao scored 13 points. Jacey Whetstone pulled down eight rebounds.

Chico 42, Shasta 40
The Wolves led 25-21 at half but was outscored 10-7 in the fourth quarter to lose the EAL opener.

West Valley 46, Anderson 35
The Eagles led 20-13 at half and kept the Cubs at bay the rest of the way in the NAL opener. West Valley improves to 11-7 overall while Anderson drops to 3-16.

U-Prep 54, Central Valley 47
The Panthers won the NAL opener to improve to 10-7 while CV dropped to 8-11.

Redding Christian 46, Winters 20
The Lions won at the East Nicolaus Tournament, jumping out to a 13-1 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 40-8 at half. Redding Christian is 9-5 overall.

Redding Christian 54, Winters 41
The Lions outscored the Warriors 35-23 in the second half to win in the East Nicolaus Tournament. Redding Christian improves to 15-1.

Thursday, Jan. 9

Prep boys basketball

West Valley 57, Anderson 35
The Eagles won their NAL opener, jumping out to a 19-9 lead after the opening quarter and 36-16 at half. Colton Raudman scored 14 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, Anthony Rogers scored 14 points and James Salvatierra scored 13 points

U-Prep 54, Central Valley 43
The Falcons led 33-32 going into the fourth quarter but the Panther outscored them 22-10 in the final period. Logan Hawes scored 19 points to go with 10 rebounds, and Kevin Cox and Aiden Lipman each scored 11 points for U-Prep (1-0 NAL, 11-6).

CV (0-1 NAL, 8-9) was led by Nawoj Cawker’s 14 points while Dojah Alido scored nine points.

East Nicolaus 63, Redding Christian 48
The Lions suffered their first loss of the year after being outscored 17-4 in the opening quarter and trailed 30-13 at half.

American Christian 65, Elk Creek 24
The Eagles led 39-12 at half. Shawn Sutton scored 17 points, Braden Glazebrook scored 12 points and Christopher Lawson scored 10 points to help ACA to 12-4 overall.

Redding Christian 46, East Nicolaus 26
The Lions outscored the Spartans 22-4 in the third quarter to pull away for the upper division win and improve to 8-5 overall.

Modoc 52, Burney 48
The Raiders were outscored 33-21 in the middle quarters but nearly rallied with an 18-point fourth to fall to the Braves. Burney drops to 6-5 overall.

Prep boys soccer

Colusa 1, Anderson 0
The Cubs suffered their first loss of the season with a one-goal defeat to the undefeated Redhawks.

U-Prep 2, Las Plumas 0
Micha Saiki and Wyatt Miles each scored a goal for the Panthers while Quinn Hamilton and Dean Farber each had an assist. Cory Smith recorded five saves in goal for U-Prep (7-5-1).

West Valley 1, Oroville 1
The Eagles and Tigers played to a draw. Isaiah Nicholson scored the lone goal for West Valley (2-10-1) and LEgend Rubio had seven saves.

Hamilton 10, Redding Christian 1
The Lions fell to 0-7 on the year with the loss to the Braves.

Prep girls soccer

West Valley 7, Oroville 0
The Eagles improved to 6-3-3 overall after the shutout.

Wednesday, Jan. 8

Prep girls basketball

Oroville 48, Anderson 28
The Cubs dropped to 3-15 overall after the non-league road loss to upper division Oroville.

Tuesday, Jan. 7

Prep boys basketball

Foothill 68, Anderson 32
The Cougars outscored the Cubs 24-7 in the opening quarter and led 47-22 at half. Josiah Palumbo scored 16 points, Bekdoo Lewis added 14 points and Luke Lindsey scored 12 points for Foothill.

Anderson’s stats were not reported.

U-Prep 51, Corning 20
The Panthers won big over Corning at home as Owen Lanning scored 13 points and Tanner Stephens and Logan Hawes each scored 10 points. Stephens also grabbed eight rebounds in the win.

Oroville 53, Central Valley 50
The Falcons led 29-26 at half but was outscored 17-12 in the fourth quarter to lose on the road. Dojah Alido scored 17 points to lead CV. Shakur Thomas scored 13 points and Nawoj Cawker scored 11 for CV (8-8).

Weed 78, Burney 38
The Raiders were outscored 43-16 in the middle quarters to lose at home. Marc Lopez scored 14 points to lead Burney (3-8) in scoring.

Pleasant Valley 70, U-Prep 34
The Panthers trailed 37-15 at half to fall to 9-7 on the year. PV improves to 6-7.

Prep boys soccer

Anderson 2, Gridley 0
The Cubs improved to 10-0-1 on the season with the shutout over Gridley.

Prep girls soccer

Anderson 8, Gridley 1
Cubs’ sophomore Lilly Stahl scored five goals and had two assists in the lopsided victory while Kara Teasley scored twice and had an assist and Jasmine Garcia-Gomez scored a goal. Goalkeeper Kerri Pryde had five saves for Anderson (2-9-1).

U-Prep 3, Chico 1
The Panthers scored all three of their goals in the second half as Amber Anderson, Ryanne Ampi and Emma Nichols each found the back of the net. Haley Bramante had two assists and goalkeeper Kylie Walsh had four saves for U-Prep (12-0-1).

Enterprise 2, Paradise 1
The Hornets scored both goals in the second half to improve to 4-5-1 overall.

Monday, Jan. 6

Prep boys basketball

Eureka 73, Enterprise 70
The Hornets had five players in double figures despite the loss: Demarreya Lewis-Cooper (17), Jermaine Mondaine (15), Gage Owen (12) and Kobe Fuller and Brennan Ramirez each scored 11.
