Here’s a daily recap of prep sports action around Shasta County reported to MaxPreps or the SCS staff. We will update the scores and highlights daily (with the newer games on the top). We invite coaches to send in scores and game information at

Thursday, Jan. 30

Prep boys basketball

American Christian 69, Princeton 57
ACA used a 25-13 advantage in the second quarter to lead at half 37-30 and never looked back. Shawn Sutton scored 30 points on 5-of-14 from 3-point range, Luke Nelson scored 18 points and had eight rebounds and Max Nelson scored seven points to go with his 11 rebounds.

West Valley 49, Anderson 29
The Eagles led 18-4 after the opening quarter and cruised to an NAL victory. Maddie Bassett scored 14 points to lead the Eagles while Ryana Johnson scored nine points and Jasee Heacock scored eight points and had eight assists. Faith Cramer pulled down a team-best eight rebounds for West Valley (6-0 NAL, 16-8) while Anderson falls to 0-6 in NAL, 3-21 overall.

Chico 45, Shasta 39
The Wolves and Panthers were tied at 31 entering the fourth quarter but was outscored 14-8 in the final period.

Anderson 5, Central Valley 0
The Cubs moved to 6-0-1 in NAL play and 16-1-2 overall while CV is 0-6 overall and in NAL play.

Lassen 1, West Valley 0
The Grizzlies scored the lone goal in the second half. West Valley had three saves.

Yreka 2, U-Prep 1
All three goals were scored in the second half. U-Prep fell to 4-2 in NAL and 11-7-1 overall and Yreka is 3-3-1 in NAL, 8-6-1 overall.

U-Prep 5, Yreka 0
The Panthers got two goals from Savannah Leak and a goal each from Amber Anderson, Ryanne Ampi and Adiah Edwardson. U-Prep (6-0 NAL, 18-0-1) runs its unbeaten streak to 63 straight matches against Northern Section opponents.

Anderson 5, Central Valley 0
The Cubs improved to 3-3 in NAL, and 5-13 overall while CV drops to 0-5 overall and in NAL. Lilly Stahl scored twice and Anderson got one goal apiece from Elizabeth Gomez, Kara Teasley and Lizet Lomeli.

West Valley 7, Lassen 0
The Eagles’ Taylor King recorded a hat trick while Kalie Doane, Samantha Finnegan, Bianca Jones and Abbi Collver each scored a goal. Doane had two assists and one assist each came from Finnegan, Brooke Keown and Isabella Alvarez. Alyssa Sheats had one save in the shutout.

Wednesday, Jan. 29

Prep wrestling

West Valley wins NAL dual title
West Valley’s beat U-Prep 48-36 and Central Valley 78-12 Wednesday to go unbeaten in the NAL for the fourth straight season. Coach Dan Eckley finished his dual meet career with an all-time North Section record of 341-63-2, according to coach Eckley. West Valley competes in the Redwood Empire Classic in Ukiah on Saturday.

Lassen 49, Central Valley 43
The Falcons trailed 19-15 at half and by two entering the fourth quarter but couldn’t pull off the road win. Nawoj Cawker scored 11 points and Shakur Thomas and Jamare Rawls ecah contributed 10 points for CV (1-4 NAL, 9-12).

Shasta 4, Enterprise 1
The Wolves scored twice in each half to move to 5-1 in EAL and 7-2 overall. Enterprise dropped to 0-5 in EAL, 3-13 overall.

Pleasant Valley 7, Foothill 0
The Cougars were shut out on the road and allowed five goals in the second half. PV improves to 5-0-1 in EAL, 10-3-2 overall while Foothill falls to 0-4-1 in EAL, 4-10-1 overall.

Shasta 5, Enterprise 1
The Wolves led 4-0 at half to cruise past rival Hornets. Shasta improves to 5-1 in EAL, 12-3 overall while Enterprise falls to 1-5 in EAL, 5-10-1 overall.

Pleasant Valley 4, Foothill 1
The Cougars trailed 3-1 at half and couldn’t recover to lose at home. Foothill falls to 1-4-1 EAL, 6-8-2 overall while PV is 5-1 EAL, 9-6-3.

Tuesday, Jan. 28

Prep girls basketball

Redding Christian 47, Burney 15
The Lions won their sixth straight game and took a two-game lead in the Five-Star League standings with a lopsided road win at Burney. Sadie Alexander scored 21 points to go with six rebounds, six steals and three assists for Redding Christian (4-0 FSL, 14-5). Aleah Matos scored 12 points and Courtney Jones had seven assists.

Yreka 69, Fall River 60
The Bulldogs trailed 33-27 at half and couldn’t catch the visiting and upper division Miners. Fall River falls to 17-4 overall while Yreka improves to 11-11.

Redding Christian 59, Burney 48
The Lions led 19-10 after the opening quarter and took a 49-34 lead entering the fourth quarter. Redding Christian improves to 4-0 in Five-Star League play and 21-2 overall.

Burney (2-2 FSL, 5-11) had three players score in double figures, led by Marc Lopez’s 14 points and eight rebounds. Heath Johnson scored 10 points and Tairin Daum scored 10 points and had six assists.

Anderson 3, U-Prep 1
The Cubs led 1-0 at half and scored twice in the second half. U-Prep’s Sawyer Bonnin assisted Micha Saiki for the Panthers’ lone goal. Cory Smith had five saves. Anderson improves to 5-0 in NAL and 15-1-1 overall while U-Prep falls to 4-1 in NAL and 11-6-1 overall.

Yreka 2, West Valley 1
The Eagles lost on the road. James Heffley assisted Tayton Parmer for West Valley’s lone goal and Legend Rubio had eight saves in goal for the Eagles (1-3-1 NAL, 3-13-2).

U-Prep 10, Anderson 0
The Panthers had seven different player score a goal in the shutout over the Cubs, led by Adiah Edwardson’s hat trick. Arianna Saechao scored twice and U-Prep got one goal apiece from Sami Isheim, Savannah Leak, Celeste Frey and Rebecca Gaido. Assists came from Amber Anderson (2) and on each from Ellie Farber, Leak, Frey, Haley Bramante, Edwardson, Morgan Wilding, Sofie Rappeport and Emma Nichols.

West Valley 4, Yreka 0
The Eagles scored twice in each half with Bianca Jones recording a hat trick and Isabella Alvarez scoring the other goal. Kalie Doane and Taylor King each had an assist for West Valley (4-1 NAL, 10-4-3).

Monday, Jan. 27

Prep boys basketball

U-Prep 70, Oroville 47
The Panthers got a non-league divisional win over the Tigers at home. Logan Hawes had a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds and Trevor Jones scored 16 points to go with four steals as U-Prep had 10 players score in the game. U-Prep improves to 16-7 overall and Oroville drops to 11-8.

U-Prep 3, Lassen 2
The Panthers won on the road in Susanville, getting one goal apiece from Dawson Sommers, Ryan Cruse and Sawyer Bonnin. Cruse and Dean Farber each had an assist and goalkeeper Cory Smith had five saves.

Prep girls soccer

U-Prep 7, Lassen 0
The Panthers led 5-0 at half. Emma Nichols and Isabel Lendman each had two goals, Arianna Saechao, Savannah Leak and Ryanne Ampi each scored a goal and assists came from Sami Isheim, Leak, Rebecca Gaido (2), Ampi and Nichols. Kylie Walsh had one save in the cleansheet.
