Shasta County Sports Report – Jan. 20-26

Here’s a daily recap of prep sports action around Shasta County reported to MaxPreps or the SCS staff. We will update the scores and highlights daily (with the newer games on the top). We invite coaches to send in scores and game information at

Thursday, Jan. 23

Prep boys basketball

Central Valley 51, Anderson 47
The Falcons led 23-22 at half and outscored the Cubs 13-6 in the third period to get ahead and hung on for the home win. Dojah Alido scored 13 points, Nawoj Cawker scored 13 points and Jamare Rawls scored 12 points for CV (1-3 NAL, 9-11).

Christian Teague scored 19 points, Devin Armstrong scored 12 points Gator Wilson scored 11 points for Anderson (2-3 NAL, 11-10).

American Christian 59, Lodi Academy 57
The Eagles trailed 32-23 at the half but outscored the Titans 19-12 in the fourth quarter to improve to 18-4 overall. Max Nelson scored 21 points, Elijah Nelson had 15 points and nine rebounds and Shawn Sutton scored 13 points and had four steals.

Redding Christian 70, Chester 37
The Lions won big on the road to improve to 2-0 in Five-Star League play and 18-2 overall.

Pleasant Valley 65, Enterprise 58
The Hornets trailed 21-10 after the opening quarter but outscored the Vikings 31-16 in the third to lead 54-52 heading into the final stanza. But Enterprise mustered only four points in the fourth period to lose and drop to 1-4 in EAL and 12-10 overall. PV is 4-1 in EAL and 14-8 overall.

Redding Christian 57, Chester 14
The Lions, ranked fifth in the state in D-VI, won their sixth straight game and improved to 2-0 in Five-Star League play and 12-5 overall.

Prep boys soccer

U-Prep 1, West Valley 0
The Panthers scored the lone goal in the first half to win and stay unbeaten in NAL play at 3-0 and 10-5-1 overall.

West Valley’s Jacob Lopez had eight saves in goal. The Eagles are 0-2-1 NAL, 2-12-2 overall.

Anderson 5, Lassen 2
The Cubs led 3-1 at half and added a pair of goals in the second half to win. Anderson is 4-0 in NAL play and 14-1-1 overall.

Prep girls soccer

U-Prep 2, West Valley 0
The Panthers stayed unbeaten in the battle for the top spot in the NAL. U-Prep got a goal from Ellie Farber and Haley Bramante while Savannah Leak had an assist. Sophomore goalkeeper Kylie Walsh had two saves for the Panthers (3-0 NAL, 15-0-1).

West Valley’s Alyssa Sheats had nine saves in goal. The Eagles are 2-1 in NAL and 8-4-3 overall.

Anderson 2, Lassen 1
The Cubs scored a goal in each half to beat the Grizzlies at the California Soccer Park. Anderson improves to 2-2 in NAL, 4-12 overall while Lassen drops to 0-2-1 NAL, 1-7-2.

Wednesday, Jan. 22

Prep boys basketball

Fall River 60, Trinity 47
The Bulldogs outscored the Wolves 34-21 in the middle quarters en route to a Shasta Cascade League victory. Timothy Westlund led Fall River with 18 points and seven rebounds, Jarom Oilar had 15 points and Royce Knoch scored 15 points and had five steals.

American Christian 78, Newbury Park Adventist 54
The Eagles outscored the Gators 43-20 in the second half after leading by one at the break. Luke Nelson scored 21 points, Shawn Sutton scored 17 points, had nine steals and eight rebounds, and Elijah Nelson scored 14 points to go with 18 rebounds for a double-double.

Fall River 53, Trinity 44
The Bulldogs outscored the Wolves 14-9 in the fourth quarter to pull away. Marissa Leighton scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the win for Fall River (4-0 SCL, 13-4).

Lassen 66, Anderson 45
The Cubs were tied with the Grizzlies at 10 after the opening quarter but were outscored 41-19 through the second and third periods to lose. Anderson falls to 0-4 in NAL and 3-19 overall while Lassen is 2-1 in NAL and 8-12.

Anderson 3, Yreka 0
The Cubs scored all three goals in the first half to win and improve to 3-0 in NAL play.

Foothill 2, Red Bluff 2
The Cougars trailed 2-1 at half and scored the lone goal of the second half to tie the Spartans at home. Foothill is 0-2-1 in EAL and 4-8-1 overall while Red Bluff is 1-1-2 EAL and 9-3-4 overall.

Shasta 5, Chico 0
The Wolves scored twice in the first half and added three the remainder of the game to improve to 3-1 in EAL and 5-2 overall while Chico drops to 1-1-2 EAL, 3-7-3 overall.

Pleasant Valley 6, Enterprise 1
The Hornets dropped to 0-3 in EAL and 4-11 overall with the loss and the Vikings are 3-0-1 EAL, 8-3-2 overall.

Shasta 1, Chico 0
The Wolves stayed unbeaten in EAL play, scoring a goal in the first half and shutting out the Panthers in a battle of the top spot in the league. Shasta is 4-0 EAL, 11-2 overall and Chico is 3-1 EAL, 14-3.

Foothill 1, Red Bluff 1
The Cougars scored in the second half to play to a draw. Foothill is 1-2-1 in EAL, 6-6-2 overall while Red Bluff us 0-3-1 EAL, 5-9-3 overall.

Yreka 6, Anderson 0
The Cubs dropped to 2-2 in NAL and 4-12 overall while Yreka is 1-1-1 NAL, 3-2-2.

Pleasant Valley 5, Enterprise 0
The Hornets dropped to 0-4 in EAL and 4-9-1 overall while PV is 3-1 in EAL and 7-6-3 overall.

Tuesday, Jan. 21

Prep boys basketball

Anderson 46, Lassen 44
The Cubs were outscored 28-16 in the middle quarters but won the fourth quarter 16-10 to pull out the NAL home win. Anderson improves to 2-2 in NAL and 11-9 overall. Christian Teague scored 19 points, Wallace Wilson scored 12 points and Rowdy Seaters scored nine points.

U-Prep 59, Yreka 45
The Panthers outscored the Miners 40-19 in the middle quarters to pull out the win and stay unbeaten in NAL play. U-Prep is 4-0 in NAL and 14-7 overall.

Red Bluff 62, Enterprise 52
The Hornets dropped a home game to the Spartans to fall to 1-3 in EAL play and 12-9 overall. Red Bluff improves to 1-3 in EAL and 5-16.

West Valley 51, Central Valley 38
The Eagles led 25-15 at half and secured the win behind Jackson Walker’s 14 points and Ben Brindley’s 13 points. Marcus Francescut pulled down 14 rebounds and had five assists and three steals. West Valley improves to 2-2 in NAL and 8-10 overall.

CV’s Nawoj Cawker scored 14 points and Jamare Rawls scored 10 points in the loss for the Falcons (0-3 NAL, 8-11).

American Christian 72, Surprise Valley 32
The Eagles outscored the Hornets 32-9 in the opening period to win in a rout. ACA improves to 3-0 in league and 15-4 overall.

Los Molinos 61, Burney 38
The Raiders fell on the road to drop to 1-1 in Five-Star League play and 4-10 overall.

Prep girls basketball

Enterprise 54, Red Bluff 43
The Hornets won on the road over the Spartans to stay perfect in EAL play. Enterprise improves to 4-0 in EAL and 13-9 overall while Red Bluff drops to 0-4 in EAL and 6-13 overall.

West Valley 56, Central Valley 39
The Falcons led 18-14 after the opening quarter but the Eagles outscored the Falcons 26-12 in the middle quarters and never looked back. West Valley improved to 4-0 in NAL and 14-8 overall while CV dropped to 0-4 in NAL play and 8-13 overall.

Anderson 7, West Valley 0
The Cubs scored four times in the first half and picked up the shutout.

Jacob Lopez had seven saves in goal for the Eagles.

U-Prep 5, Central Valley 0
Ethan Mullen scored twice and the Panthers got a goal each from Nikolai Orloff, Sawyer Bonnin and Justin McCandless. Danny Cornyn, Micha Saiki, Ryan Cruse, Dean Farber and Bonnin each had an assist. Cooper McHaney had three saves and Cory Smith had one save in goal.

West Valley 6, Anderson 0
The Eagles scored five times in the first half. Kalie Doane scored twice and West Valley got a goal each from Brooke Keown, Bianca Jones, Isabella Alvarez and Alyssa Sheats. Jones had two assists, Keown had an assist and Leah Dooley had an assist.

U-Prep 9, Central Valley 0
The Panthers’ Haley Bramante scored four goals, Adiah Edwardson had a goal and four assists, Morgan Wilding scored twice, Bella Neal scored once, Ellie Farber had a goal, Savannah Leak had two assists and one assist each came from Sami Osheim, Celeste Frey and Amber Anderson.
