Shasta County Sports Report: Feb. 8-17

Here’s a daily recap of prep sports action around Shasta County reported to MaxPreps or the SCS staff. We will update the scores and highlights daily (with the newer games on the top). We invite coaches to send in scores and game information at shastacountysports@gmail.com.

Thursday, Feb. 13

Prep girls basketball

West Valley 53, Yreka 42
The Eagles led 33-16 at half and finished off a perfect NAL season at 10-0. West Valley improves to 20-8 overall.

U-Prep 42, Lassen 22
The Panthers outscored the Grizzlies 21-4 in the fourth quarter to pull away for the win. U-Prep finishes the regular season 7-3 in NAL, 17-10 overall.

Central Valley 62, Anderson 41
The Falcons finished the regular season 2-8 in NAL, 10-18 overall while Anderson ends the year 0-10 NAL, 3-25.

Prep boys basketball

American Christian 70, Paradise Adventist 27
The Eagles led 23-5 after the opening quarter. Elijah Nelson scored 23 points and had 14 rebounds and Shawn Sutton added 12 points for ACA (6-0 league, 22-6).

Anderson 3, U-Prep 2
The Cubs got a goal each from Jose Magana, Juan Estrada and Miguel Rodriguez in the win. Alessandro Vazquez, Estrada and Magana each had an assist in the match and Adrian Magana had two saves. Anderson ends the regular season with a perfect 10-0 mark in NAL and 20-1-1 overall.

U-Prep’s Ryan Cruse scored both Panther goals on assists from Wyatt Miles and Dean Farber. Cory Smith had four saves for U-Prep, which ends the regular season 7-3 NAL, 14-8-1.

West Valley 0, Yreka 0
The Eagles finished the regular season 1-6-3 NAL, 3-16-4 overall.

Lassen 3, Central Valley 1
The Falcons end the season 0-9-1 NAL and 0-9-1 overall.

Prep girls soccer

U-Prep 8, Anderson 0
The Panthers’ Ryanne Ampi scored a hat trick, Bella Neal scored twice and Celeste Frey, Kylie Walsh and Morgan Wilding each scored a goal. Rebecca Gould had three assists and assists also came from Ellie Farber, Savannah Leak, Adiah Edwardson and Neal. U-Prep finishes the regular season 10-0 NAL, 22-0-1.

West Valley 4, Yreka 0
The Eagles’ Samantha Finnegan scored twice and Brooke Keown and Kalie Doane each scored a goal. Doane had two assists and EmmaRae Westphal had the other assist. Bianca Jones had three saves in goal and Cheyenne Sanders had a save for West Valley (8-2 NAL, 14-5-3).

Wednesday, Feb. 12

Prep boys soccer

Red Bluff 4, Enterprise 2
The Hornets end the regular season 1-9 EAL, 5-17 overall.

Chico 5, Foothill 0
The Cougars end the regular season 1-8-1 EAL, 6-15-1 overall.

Prep girls soccer

Shasta 2, Pleasant Valley 2
The Wolves and Vikings played to a draw. Shasta finishes the regular season 7-2-1 EAL, 14-4-1 overall while PV is 7-2-1 EAL, 11-7-4.

Chico 3, Foothill 0
The Cougars finished the regular season 3-6-1 EAL, 8-10-2 overall.

Tuesday, Feb. 11

Prep boys basketball

U-Prep 78, Yreka 49
The Panthers clinched the outright NAL title with a home win over the Miners. Logan Hawes scored 22 points, Tanner Stephens scored 19 points and had a team-high eight rebounds and Trevor Jones scored 16 points in the win. Kevin Cox led the team with six steals and Aiden Lipman totaled five assists. U-Prep moves to 8-1 NAL, 19-8 overall.

Enterprise 72, Red Bluff 66
The Hornets won on the road over the Spartans, splitting the season series. The Hornets improve to 3-6 EAL, 14-12 overall.

Anderson 50, Lassen 46
The Cubs led 24-23 at half and outscored the Grizzlies 11-8 in the third. Christian Teague scored a game-high 20 points, Anthony Ballestin and John Morse each scored eight points for Anderson (6-3 NAL, 15-10).

Pleasant Valley 67, Shasta 47
The Wolves were outscored 17-6 in the opening period and 22-11 in the fourth quarter to lose on the road. James Weaver scored a team-best 14 points while JT Beasley and Jacob Singleton each tallied nine points. Shasta falls to 3-6 EAL, 16-11 overall while PV goes to 6-3 EAL, 16-11 overall.

Fall River 62, Trinity 48
The Bulldogs outscored the Wolves 34-21 in the second half and clinched at least a share of the SCL title. Fall River (8-1 SCL, 20-5) wraps up the season with Modoc at home on Friday.

Redding Christian 60, Mercy 35
The Lions won at home to improve to 6-1 in FSL, 23-3 overall. Redding Christian can clinch at least a share of the FSL title Friday with a win over Burney and will win it outright if Los Molinos loses to Mercy.

Burney 45, Chester 37
The Raiders moved to 4-3 in FSL play and 7-12 overall after outscoring the Volcanoes 18-9 in the fourth quarter.

American Christian 80, Westwood 49
The Eagles jumped out to a 38-5 lead after the opening quarter and never looked back. Shawn Sutton and Max Nelson each scored 19 points while Elijah Nelson had a double-double with 12 points and 12 assists and Christopher Lawson tallied 12 points. ACA moves to 5-0 in league and 21-6 overall.

Enterprise 65, Red Bluff 48
The Hornets clinched at least a share of the EAL title with a home win over the Spartans. Up next is Pleasant Valley for the outright league title. Enterprise is 8-1 EAL, 17-10 overall.

West Valley 52, Central Valley 36
The Eagles outscored the Falcons 21-9 to pull away and stay perfect in NAL play at 9-0, 19-8 overall. Jasee Heacock led the Eagles with 14 points, seven rebounds and five steals while Ryana Johnson and Maddie Bassett each contributed eight points. CV falls to 1-8 NAL, 9-18 overall.

Foothill 64, Chico 59
The Cougars led 37-36 at half and outscored the Panthers 16-11 in the third quarter. Foothill improves to 4-5 EAL, 12-11 overall while Chico drops to 4-5 EAL, 14-12 overall.

Redding Christian 56, Mercy 12
The Lions clinched the FSL title with a home win over the Warriors. Redding Christian has won 10 straight games and is 7-0 FSL, 17-5 overall.

Lassen 46, Anderson 34
The Cubs and Grizzlies were tied at 21 at half but Anderson was outscored 15-0 in the third quarter. Anderson falls to 0-9 NAL, 3-24 while Lassen improves to 6-3 NAL, 12-14.

Anderson 5, Lassen 0
The Cubs scored three times in the first half to improve to clinch the outright NAL championship with a 9-0 mark and 19-1-1 overall.

U-Prep 3, West Valley 0
The Panthers scored all three goals in the second half to improve to 7-2 NAL, 14-7-1. West Valley got 12 saves from Jacob Lopez and falls to 1-6-2 NAL, 3-16-3.

U-Prep 1, West Valley 0
The Panthers’ Savannah Leak assisted Adiah Edwardson for the lone goal. U-Prep’s goalkeeper Kylie Walsh had four saves in the shutout while West Valley’s Alyssa Sheats had 10 saves in the loss. U-Prep captured the outright NAL title and moves to 9-0 NAL, 21-0-1 overall and West Valley falls to 7-2 NAL, 13-5-3.

Lassen 9, Anderson 0
The Cubs allowed six goals in the first half and fell to 3-6 NAL, 5-16 overall.

Saturday, Feb. 8

Prep wrestling

West Valley’s wrestling team won its fourth straight Northern Athletic League championship with 200 points. Anderson was second with 131 points, followed by U Prep in third with 125, Lassen fourth with 83 and Central Valley 5th with 20. West Valley’s NAL champions were Connor Edwards (1280, Caden Arlandson (134), Niall Raby (140), Matt Goldschmidt (147), Rocky Raby (154), Jacob Johnston (172), and Cade Lambert (184). West Valley competes next Saturday in the Division I Championships at Pleasant Valley in Chico.
