Shasta County Sports Report – Feb. 3-5

Here’s a daily recap of prep sports action around Shasta County reported to MaxPreps or the SCS staff. We will update the scores and highlights daily (with the newer games on the top). We invite coaches to send in scores and game information at

Thursday, Feb. 5

Prep girls basketball

Enterprise 51, Shasta 32
The Hornets improved to 7-1 in EAL play and 16-10 overall while Shasta dropped to 4-4 EAL, 14-9 overall.

West Valley 36, U-Prep 23
The Eagles captured the outright NAL title with a win over the Panthers. West Valley outscored U-Prep 14-5 in the second half to improve to 8-0 in NAL, 18-8 overall. U-Prep falls to 5-3 NAL, 15-10 overall.

Foothill 55, Red Blufff 47
The Cougars improved to 3-5 in EAL, 11-11 overall while Red Bluff fell to 0-8 in EAL, 6-17 overall.

Anderson 8, West Valley 0
The Cubs clinched at least a share of the NAL title with a shutout over the Eagles. Anderson improved to 8-0 NAL, 18-1-1 overall. West Valley falls to 1-5-2 NAL, 3-15-3 overall.

U-Prep 8, Central Valley 0
The Panthers improved to 6-2 NAL, 13-7-1 overall and CV fell to 0-7-1.

The Panthers move to 8-0 in NAL, 20-0-1 and CV drops to 0-8.

West Valley 8, Anderson 0
The Eagles’ Isabella Alvarez scored a hat trick while Samantha Finnegan, Megan Patton, Brooke Keowne, Brianca Jones and Abbi Collver each scored a goal. Finnegan had five assists and Kalie Doane and Taylor King each had an assist. West Valley improves to 7-1 NAL, 13-4-3 overall and Anderson falls to 3-5 NAL, 5-15.

American Christian 78, Elk Creek 27
The Eagles led 30-8 after the opening quarter in the win. Shawn Sutton scored 15 points and Elijah Nelson, Luke Nelson and Gabriel Luca each scored 10 points. Max Nelson grabbed 21 rebounds and Luke Nelson had 10 rebounds.

Wednesday, Feb. 4

Prep boys soccer

Shasta 5, Foothill 0
The Wolves led 2-0 at half and went on to win to move to 7-1 in EAL, 9-2 overall. Foothill drops to 1-6-1 EAL and 6-13-1 overall.

Chico 8, Enterprise 0
The Hornets fell to 1-7 EAL play and 4-15 overall. Chico is 4-1-3 in EAL, 6-7-4 overall.

Shasta 3, Foothill 1
The Wolves beat the Cougars on the road to improve to 7-1 in EAL and 14-3 overall. Foothill falls to 2-5-1 EAL, 7-9-2 overall.

Chico 9, Enterprise 0
The Hornets fall to 1-7 EAL, 5-12-1 overall.

Tuesday, Feb. 3

Prep boys basketball

Shasta 56, Red Bluff 42
The Wolves outscored the Spartans 22-10 in the third period to pull away. JT Beasley scored a game-high 19 points and Simon Turner added 14 points. Dilraj Sahota contributed 11 rebounds in the win for Shasta (2-5 EAL, 15-10).

Central Valley 62, Yreka 40
The Falcons won on the road over the Miners. Jamare Rawls scored 21 points, Dojah Alido had 14 points, Nawoj Cawker scored 13 points and Kevin Seaman scored 10 points for CV (2-5 NAL, 10-13).

Anderson 62, U-Prep 39
The Cubs handed the Panthers their first NAL loss of the season. Christian Teague scored 26 points and Devon Armstrong scored 14 points for Anderson (4-3 NAL, 13-10).

U-Prep’s Tanner Stephens scored 14 points and Trevor Jones scored 10 points. U-Prep falls to 6-1 NAL, 17-8 overall.

Chico 52, Enterprise 51
The Hornets trailed 30-27 at half and tied it up in the final minute but couldn’t get the victory over the visiting Panthers. Enterprise falls to 2-5 in EAL, 13-11 overall while Chico is 5-2 EAL, 14-8.

Fall River 63, Etna 25
The Bulldogs held the Lions to seven points or less in each quarter and scored 21 in the opening period. Tim Westlund scored 13 points, Benito Perez scored 11 points and Brian Meeker added 10 points for Fall River (6-1 SCL, 18-5).

Lassen 58, West Valley 44
The Eagles outscored the Grizzlies 16-8 in the third period to lead by one entering the fourth. But Lassen held West Valley to five points in the final period. West Valley falls to 2-5 NAL, 8-13 overall while Lassen improves to 5-2 NAL, 17-8.

Los Molinos 49, Redding Christian 22
The short-handed Lions snapped a 17-game winning streak in league with a home loss to the Bulldogs. Redding Christian falls to 4-1 in FSL, 21-3 overall while Los Molinos is 5-1 FSL, 14-7.

West Valley 48, Lassen 40
The Eagles outscored the Grizzlies 18-8 in the second period and held on to win. Jasee Heacock scored 13 points and pulled down 14 rebounds and Maddie Bassett scored nine points. West Valley improved to 7-0 in NAL, 17-8 overall.

U-Prep 67, Anderson 33
The Panthers outscored the Cubs 41-14 in the middle quarters. Jordan McCoy scored 17 points and Melanie Lindsey scored 12 points for U-Prep (5-2 NAL, 15-9). Anderson drops to 0-7 NAL, 3-22 overall.

Shasta 64, Red Bluff 49
The Wolves jumped out to a 16-4 lead and never looked back. Shasta improved to 4-3 in EAL, 14-8 overall while Red Bluff drops to 0-7 EAL, 6-16.

Yreka 56, Central Valley 52
The Falcons fell to 1-6 in NAL play and 9-16 overall with the home loss to the Miners (4-3 NAL, 10-13).

Fall River 41, Etna 34
The Bulldogs led 18-14 at half and held off the Lions in the fourth. Fall River stays atop the SCL with a 7-0 mark and is 17-4 overall. Etna falls to 6-2 SCL, 17-4.

Redding Christian 44, Los Molinos 19
The Lions (5-0 FSL, 15-5) held the Bulldogs (2-4 FSL, 9-11) to four points or less in three of the four quarters.

U-Prep 4, Lassen 0
The Panthers scored all four goals in the first half. Wyatt Miles scored twice, Micha Saiki and Sawyer Bonnin scored once each. Ryan Cruse, Miles and Dean Farber each had an assist. U-Prep improves to 5-2 NAL, 12-7-1 overall.

Anderson 4, Yreka 0
The Cubs scored twice in each half. Anderson improves to 7-0 in NAL, 17-1-1 overall.

West Valley 3, Central Valley 3
The Eagles and Falcons played to a draw. West Valley’s Tayton Parmer, Lance Scholberg and Jacob Amaz scored one goal each and Parmer, Fernando Trejo and Isaiah Nicholson each had an assist.

U-Prep 7, Lassen 0
Savannah Leak and Isabell Lendman each scored twice, Ellie Farber, Ryanne Ampi and Adiah Edwardson each scored once. Ampi had three assists, Leak, Lendman, Morgan Wilding and Emily Hobbs each had an assist.

West Valley 8, Central Valley 0
The Eagles scored six in the first half. Kalie Doanne and Leah Dooley each scored twice and Bianca Jones, Taylor King, Abbi Collver and Lexi Neeman each scored once. Jones, King, Tayla Bigelow, Doane and Samantha Finnegan each had an assist.

Yreka 4, Anderson 0
The Cubs fall to 3-5 in NAL and 5-15 overall.

Saturday, Feb. 1

Prep wrestling

West Valley’s wrestling team placed 3rd out of 36 Teams at the redwood Empire Classic in Ukiah on Saturday. Place winners included Connor Edwards 129 1st, Cade Lambert 185 1st, Chase Colgate 123 2nd, Jacob Johnston 173 2nd, Matt Goldschmidt 148 4th, Henry Harding 198 4th, and Caden Arlandson 135 5th. West Valley has the Northern Athletic League Championships next Saturday at Central Valley.
