Shasta College all-conference players announced

Shasta College had five players earn all-NorCal Conference honors and two honorable mention for their performances during the 2018 football season.

On offense, sophomore wide receiver Karnell Collier (Florida City, FL) and freshman offensive tackle Blake Curtis (Smoky Mountain, N.C.) were all-conference selections. Defensively, freshman defensive tackle Detrius Kelsall (Redding), freshman defensive end Cole Parker (Corning) and sophomore linebacker Hunter Margain (Fountain Valley) were tabbed to the all-NorCal Conference squad.

Sophomore receiver Patrick Blake (Palo Cedro) and sophomore Cavin Gillispie (Central Point, OR) earned honorable mention.

Collier finished the season with four straight games with more than 100 yards receiving, catching 30 passes for 484 yards during that stretch. He finished the year with 52 receptions for 818 yards and five touchdowns with his best game coming against American River where he had nine catches for 137 yards and a score.

Curtis, a 6-5, 330-pound lineman, was an integral part of an offense that averaged 392.9 yards per game, which ranked 26th in the state. Shasta put up 24.1 points per game, and 26.4 over the five NorCal Conference games.

Margain was the Knights’ leading tackler with 69 tackles to go with one sack, 6.5 tackles for a loss and one forced fumble. He averaged 7.4 tackles per game across NorCal Conference play and, including a season-high 12 tackles against American River.

Kelsall was third on Shasta with 41 tackles and led the team in tackles for a loss with 8.5, which went for a loss of 29 yards. He added 2.5 sacks, blocked a kick and had one pass breakup. He had a season-high eight tackles against Sierra College.

Parker tied for the team-lead with four sacks on the season. He finished the year with 29 tackles, eight tackles for a loss and had one pass breakup. He had a pair of six-tackle performances – one against West Hills and the other against Butte and had sacks in three straight games.

Blake led the Knights with 53 receptions, which went for 679 yards a team-leading six touchdowns. He had three 100-plus yard games, catching nine passes for 121 yards against Santa Rosa and having two games with a pair of touchdowns – against Feather River and Butte. His 53 receptions rank 17th in the state.

Gillispie led the Knights in rushing with 540 yards on 108 carries and three touchdowns. He also had 15 receptions go for 139 yards on the season. Gillispie’s best game came against College of the Sequoias where he rushed for 157 yards and had another 21 yards receiving.

Butte had each of the Offensive and Defensive MVPs in wide receiver Jordan Kress and defensive lineman Michael Kutch, and Coach of the Year in Robby Snelling.
