Shasta College’s football team finished the regular season 7-3 and accepted an invite to the Northern California Football Conference’s Golden State Bowl Sunday to play City College of San Francisco on Saturday at noon at CCSF.
The Knights were 7-1 before losing the final two games of the year to NorCal Conference champion American River and rival Butte College. It’s the fifth bowl game appearance for Shasta College in the past six years, the second time the Knights have achieved the feat since going to five straight bowl games from 1954-58. All coverage provided by Sierra Pacific Industries.
“We are excited about playing in the Golden State Bowl; being matched up against a historically top program in San Francisco is a great challenge and one our program is looking forward to,” said Bryon Hamilton, who is in his first year as head coach for Shasta College. “It’s a great reward for a good season. We are proud of where the program is and are extremely excited about the future.”
Shasta finished tied for third in the NorCal Conference behind ARC and Butte, and tied with Sierra College, though the Wolverines held the head-to-head tiebreaker with a 44-21 win on Oct. 19 to hand Shasta its first loss of the year.
San Francisco also finished 7-3, finishing third in the National Bay 6 Conference behind San Mateo and Laney, respectively. To compare schedules, San Francisco went 6-0 against teams Shasta played with notable wins over Butte and Sierra — both losses for the Knights. The Rams lost to San Mateo to close out the regular season.
