SCS Report: U-Prep wins big over Yreka, CV beats Lassen 12-7 on the road

The U-Prep Panthers bounced back from their first loss, beating Yreka 46-12 on Friday. It was the second time this season the Panther beat the Miners.

Junior Chris Jimenez filled in at quarterback for injured Payton Henderson and tossed four TD passes – one to Kevin Cox, one to Carter Abel and two to Scotty Jones as U-Prep led 36-6 at half.

Carter Abel scored twice times for the visitors with the TD reception and the other off a 95-yard pick-six.

Defensive end Brendan Nye rumbled in for a defensive touchdown on a scoop-and-score, while running back Jake Reuss also scored for U-Prep (3-1), which ran for more than 250 yards.

The Panthers host Central Valley on Friday to face the 3-0 Falcons.

One week after a 13-5 win over Redding Christian, CV remained unbeaten on the road in Susanville.

Seniors Willie Mowry and Kade Crowell found the end zone for CV, which led 12-7 and held on with tough defense in the second half for the victory.

The Falcons travel to U-Prep on Friday.

The Lions fell for the second straight week in their final game of the shortened spring season.

Carson Piper had 70 yards rushing and Clark Smith and Karson Molter led the defensive effort with eight tackles each.

Aaron Williams has been involved in the North State sports scene for nearly two decades. He spent eight years as the Sports Editor for the local newspaper and another four more as the voice of high school football on the radio. Williams has coached various sports at the high school level over the past decade, most recently at Shasta High, and is also the public address announcer for the Shasta College football and basketball teams.
