Prep baseball

U-Prep 15, Enterprise 3
The Panthers improved to 11-2 on the season with the road win over the Hornets (0-4).

Friday, May 7

Prep girls basketball

Shasta 69, Enterprise 23
The short-handed Hornets, who are playing with one varsity player and the rest underclassmen due to COVID, lost at home. Shasta’s Katie Poletski scored 14 points, Isabelle Smith scored 12 points and Gabby James added 10 points in the win to improve to 2-1.

U-Prep 10, West Valley 3
The Panthers beat the Eagles on the road Friday, racking up 11 hits in the game. Sawyer Brown was 1 for 4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs, Will Tasista was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs, Mitchell Cheffet was 2 for 3 with three runs, Alex Alvarez was 2 for 4 with an RBI, Kaermon Morphew was 1 for 4 with three RBIs and Drew Askeland and Chet Crummet each scored a run. Tasista got the win on the mount, striking out 15 batters, walking two and allowing two earned runs on four hits in seven innings.

Redding Christian 10, Burney 0 (5)
The Lions’ Paxton Rowan and Max Beasley combined to throw a five-inning no-hitter. Carson Piper was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run, Clark Smith was 2 for 4 with two runs, Rowan was 1 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs and Karson Molter was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run. Rowan struck out seven batters across four hitless innings and Beasley struck out one in one inning of relief. Redding Christian improves to 5-1 on the season while Burney drops to 0-6.

Yreka 16, Anderson 0 (5)
The Cubs fell to 0-4 on the season with the road loss.

Prep softball

Burney 5, Redding Christian 4 (11)
The Raiders won in extra innings. Peyton Estes was 2 for 4 with a run, Ciera McMclung was 2 for 4 with two runs, Cheyenne Wilson drove in three runs and Nykia Gannon had an RBI. Estes struck out 12 batters, walked three and allowed one earned run on seven hits in 11 innings to get the win. Burney improves to 8-1 and Redding Christian falls to 6-4 on the year.

Enterprise 9, Shasta 6
The Hornets’ Emma Keltner was 4 for 5 with three doubles and four RBIs, Autumn Campbell was 3 for 4 with two runs, Averi Waterman was 2 for 5 with an RBI, Kiara Yaho was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run, Vanessa Gonzales was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs. Jaylee Ponte got the win, striking out nine, walking three and allowing four earned runs on eight hits in seven innings.

Shasta’s Joci Bertain was 2 for 4 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs, Jaden Knight was 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs, Madison Denham was 1 for 3 with an RBI and Madison ones and Kyleigh Garcia each scored a run. Bertain took the loss in the circle, giving up seven earned runs on 13 hits in seven innings while striking out six and walking three.

Enterprise improves to 1-3 and Shasta drops to 1-3.

Red Bluff 9, Foothill 0
The Cougars suffered their first loss of the year. Macey Bunn had both hits for Foothill, going 2 for 3. Hanna Haglan took the loss, giving up four earned runs on 12 hits in seven innings while striking out five.

Thursday, May 6

Prep girls basketball

West Valley 48, Red Bluff 29
The Eagles won their season opener behind Maddy Bassett’s 15 points and Morgan Montgomery’s 10 points.

Prep boys basketball

U-Prep 87, West Valley 29
The Panthers improved to 3-0 on the season with the lopsided home win over the Eagles. Tanner Stephens scored 27 points on 11-of-16 shooting in three quarters of play. Aiden scored 24 points on 8-of-11 shooting with six 3-pointers and Kameron Morphew registered a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Central Valley 59, Anderson 55
The Falcons led 26-17 at half but the Cubs cut it to 41-37 entering the fourth quarter. Central Valley’s Brandon Abbott scored 14 of his game-high 28 points in the final period, nearly outscoring Anderson by himself and added nearly 10 rebounds, coach Colin Carr said. CV’s Willie Mowry scored 12 points, Jamare Rawls added seven points.

Anderson’s Anthony Ballestin scored a team-best 17 points and Mason Smith and Devin Armstrong each scored 10 points for the Cubs, who shot 10 of 24 from the free throw line.

Yreka 51, Enterprise 46
The Hornets (1-1) suffered their first loss of the year at home against the Miners (2-0).

Prep baseball

Foothill 7, Red Bluff 1
The Cougars (4-2) split the season series with the Spartans (6-3) with the 7-1 home win.

Prep girls soccer

Shasta 3, Enterprise 0
The Wolves got a goal apiece from Jayden Dutro, Aleigha Muleri and Kennedy Greenfield. Nyla Schmidt had two assists and Reina Smith had an assist for the Wolves, who improve to 4-0.

Wednesday, May 5

Prep baseball

Foothill 7, Red Bluff 1
The Cougars improved to 3-2 on the season with the road win while the Spartans drop to 6-2 despite Trevor Coates two hits.

Los Molinos 15, Redding Christian 3 (6)
The Lions’ Carson Piper was 2 for 2 with a run, Gavin Webb drove in two runs and Paxton Rowan was 1 for 2 with an RBI. Piper struck out four, walked three, gave up six runs on seven hits in four innings.

Prep softball

Foothill 17, Shasta 4 (5)
The Cougars scored at least two runs in every inning. Kira Montgomery was 3 for 5 with a home run, five RBIs and four runs, Kyla Pontoni was 2 for 3 with four RBIs and three runs, Sierra Hunt was 2 for 4 with four runs, Savanna Cruz was 2 for 4 with an RBI, Hannah Haglan was 2 for 5 with a double and a run and Macey Bunn was 1 for 3 with a run. Haglan got the win, striking out six and walking one while allowing three earned runs on nine hits in five innings.

Shasta’s Natalya Turner took the loss, giving up nine runs on 14 hits in three innings while striking out four. Madison Jones was 3 for 3 with a run, Madison Denham had two RBIs, Turner was 2 for 3 with two runs, Maya Fairchild was 1 for 3 with an RBI and Jodi Bertain drove in a run and scored a run.

Foothill improves to 3-0 while Shasta drops to 1-2 on the season.

Red Bluff 10, Enterprise 3
The Hornets gave up five runs in the third and four in the fourth. Breezlyn Baird was 1 for 3 with an RBI, Shay Roadrunner was 1 for 3 with an RBI, Autumn Campbell was 1 for 3 with a run and Averi Waterman and Emma Keltner each scored a run. Jaylee Ponte took the loss, allowing five earned runs on nine hits in six innings.

Los Molinos 19, Redding Christian 12
The Lions dropped to 6-3 on the season with the loss.

Tuesday, May 4

Prep baseball

U-Prep 10, West Valley 6
The Panthers’ Will Tasista was 3 for 4 with a double, four RBIs, five stolen bases and a run, Scottie Jones was 3 for 3 with a triple, three stolen bases and a run, Matt Miyamoto was 3 for 4 with a double, an RBI and two runs, Sawyer Bonnin was 2 for 3 with two stolen bases and three runs and Alex Alvarez drove in two runs. Alvarez got the win, striking out seven batters and allowing four earned runs on seven hits in 6.1 innings. U-Prep improves to 9-2 on the year while West Valley falls to 1-2.

Yreka 17, Anderson 0 (4)
The Cubs fall to 0-3 on the season while the Miners move to 8-1.

Prep softball

West Valley 14, U-Prep 1
The Eagles picked up their first win of the year with the home victory over U-Prep (6-1).

Lassen 13, Central Valley 0
The Falcons fell to 0-3 on the season with the home loss.

Etna 10, Fall River 3
The Bulldogs fell to 6-10 on the season while Etna moved to 14-3.

Prep boys soccer

Red Bluff 5, Enterprise 2
The Hornets fell to 0-2 on the season and Red Bluff improved to 2-2.

Prep girls soccer

Shasta 5, Foothill 0
The Wolves got two goals and an assist from Nyla Schmidt and a goal each from Jaydn Dutro, Maddison Giles and Kennedy Greenfield. Ella Wallis and Greenfield each had an assist and Reina Smith had two assists. Jayda Johnson had two saves in goal and Greenfield had one save. Shasta moves to 3-0 on the season while Foothill drops to 1-2.

Monday, May 3

Prep baseball

Yreka 13, Foothill 7
The Cougars dropped to 2-2 on the season while the Miners improved to 7-1.
