Anderson Cubs
Last week: 21-13 home loss to U-Prep
Anderson was considered in the running for the Northern Athletic League title this season but the Cubs have taken back-to-back hits to fall down the pecking order. Anderson gave up a couple of big plays against U-Prep — touchdown passes of 31 and 57 yards. Kaeson Saelee scored on a 69-yard touchdown run and junior quarterback Devin Armstrong found a reliable target in Mason Smith, who caught six passes for 128 yards and a touchdown. But the Cubs were penalized several times and can’t get the offense up to speed quick enough. If Anderson loses this week to Central Valley, tied for No. 6, it will be hard to climb out of the cellar of these rankings for the remainder of the spring season.

Central Valley Falcons
Last week: 18-14 road win over Yreka
The Falcons are a week behind the rest of the county, starting their season last week in Yreka. But they made up for lost time, hanging on for the W over the Miners. CV fumbled late in the game, deep in its own territory, but a head’s up play by Willie Mowry kept the Miners at bay. Up 18-12, a wayward pitch found its way to the end zone where Mowry fell on it for a safety – had Yreka recovered, the Miners would’ve had the chance for the go-ahead score. Mowry had two picks in the win. Charlie Stevens had a score for the Falcons.
