The vertical passing attack from the arm of Toren Tuttle was shown for the first time this season against Santa Rosa and the freshman quarterback out of Medford, Ore., let it fly with ease.

Tuttle threw for 277 yards and a touchdown on 24-of-39 passing, taking deep shots throughout the game to take advantage of the Bear Cub defense keying to stop the run. Tuttle is the Redding Rancheria Player of the Game for his efforts, his first honor this season despite being a runner-up multiple times, including a four-touchdown game against College of the Siskiyous three weeks ago.

Saturday was a glimpse of what Tuttle can accomplish with good protection from his offensive line. Not only did he throw for nearly 300 yards but a handful of other deep balls were contested well by the defense or dropped by the wide receivers.

“We had guys open and we wanted to be aggressive with the pass this game,” Shasta College head coach Bryon Hamilton said.

Tuttle had a season-high completions, attempts and passing yards in the game. The Knights tied their season-high for passing first downs with 11 and had nine completions of at least 10 yards – four of which went beyond 20 yards.

The 39 passing attempts by Tuttle rank 23rd most in a single game in Shasta College history. On the season, Tuttle is 94-of-177 (53.1%) for 1,079 yards, six touchdowns and eight interceptions.
