To go on the road and steal a victory against an upper division team requires guts, tenacity and confidence.
Lassen High senior running back Tavin Fowler had a perfect blend of the three when he helped the Grizzlies to a 38-22 victory at Enterprise Friday night in the Tri Counties Bank Game of the Week. Fowler was crucial in the passing game early, catching two touchdowns, and then sealed it late by shouldering the load. When the team needed a closer, they turned to Fowler. For that, he’s the Redding Rancheria Player of the Game.
With Lassen taking to the air often so far in this season, Fowler hasn’t had much opportunity to find his footing. He entered his third game of the year Friday with only 120 total yards of offense. Two first half touchdown grabs of 21 and 5 yards helped get Lassen rolling early on. He came out of the backfield on both, the first finding running room and weaving his way for a score.
But when the pass was stalling for the Grizzlies in the second half as Enterprise inched closer, Lassen head coach Tom St. Jacques called for No. 44. And he delivered.
Fowler ran the ball 10 times in the second half, picking up 87 yards on those touches. He was the early down back that set the Grizzlies up for success, leaving them with short second down yardage to gain and also had four carries that went for nine yards or more.
On the night, Fowler finished with 15 carries for 100 yards and two catches for 26 yards and the two scores. He more than doubled his total yardage on the season and touchdown output against Enterprise and the Grizzlies are sitting at 2-1 with an upper division victory in they’re back pocket for playoff time.
