Redding Rancheria Player of the Game: Gavin Dobson | QB

All Gavin Dobson needed was a chance to show what he can do in a game.

The North State native and Fall River alum delivered for Shasta College Saturday during their 35-21 road game against West Hills in Coalinga. Rotating in with starting quarterback Toren Tuttle, Dobson accounted for three total touchdowns and jumpstarted an offense that was stagnant in the first half to earn Redding Rancheria Player of the Game honors.

Shasta’s passing game hasn’t been as effective as Knights’ head coach Byron Hamilton wishes so far this year, leading him to play both starting quarterback Tuttle and the second-stringer Dobson. The latter completed 4-of-9 passes for 134 yards and threw two touchdowns, one of which came on a 54-yard pass to Tyler Carey on the opening play of a fourth-quarter drive.

Dobson also added a 24-yard scoring strike to Josiah Graham for the Knights’ first touchdown of the game and chipped in with his legs for a 2-yard touchdown run in the second half.

Shasta enters NorCal Conference play this week with a 3-1 overall record.
