Even in the games that you’re expected to win, you still have to perform. Cade Lambert did just that, continuing to be an impact player on both sides of the ball for West Valley.
Whether the Eagles’ senior is running the ball, blocking for his teammates or tracking down opponents from his inside linebacker position, you’ll see No. 9 around the ball in nearly every play. His performance from Week 1 earned him the Redding Rancheria Player of the Game from the Tri Counties Bank Game of the Week.
Lambert finished with 87 rushing yards and touchdown runs of 3, 25 and 2 yards on 12 carries. It was his second three-score game this year after scoring only four times all of last year. On defense, he totaled 11 tackles, four solo, to put him at 49 tackles in three games in 2019.
What’s more impressive is the type of attention he draws, which is just as valuable as when the ball is in his hands. And he’s still producing. A week after Foothill’s focal point was to stuff the inside run, Lambert found running room up the gut. But West Valley also gets him the ball on fly sweeps. When Lambert gets going, that opens up the rest of the offense with the play-action pass, outside tosses to Aguilar or sweeps to Brandon Maroste.
Although the Eagles got the Dub, it was Lambert who said the Eagles need to clean a few things up going into Red Bluff this week. Those high expectations are what drives a team to greatness. West Valley is well on its way.
