The Shasta County Sports team assembled from a couple of former media members, four die-hard sports fans and people passionate about highlighting community athletic achievements. We all have full-time day jobs, a mix of children still at home or grown up, and felt like adding more into the mix to bring the North State the sports coverage the community deserves. And WE’RE EXPANDING thanks to local businesses and our sponsors for seeing the need in the community for what we do.
Shasta County Sports aims to build camaraderie and connect the community through our in-depth reporting to help provide exposure for student-athletes in hopes of them using athletics as a catalyst to further their education and their lives.

Our Starting Lineup
Aaron is a journalist in the truest form — a crafty wordsmith with a keen eye for editing and design. He’s been a North State staple for nearly 20 years, entrenched in community athletics as a father, a coach and as a member of the media, earning a respected reputation and trustworthy source. He works as a National Editor for MaxPreps.
T.J. is a national-award winning journalist passionate about local news and telling the story no one else knows about. He’s roamed sidelines, baselines and bleachers in the North State since 2010 and is a content producer from sunup to sundown. Sports are a hobby he shares with his wife Tracy where they’ve spent many dates around a field or court of some sort.
The better half of the Holmes duo, Tracy pours her passion into every aspect of her life. This comes from being a decorated high school and collegiate athlete to supporting her children through sports and life. She’s mastered 4-plus years of camera work for game highlights as she carries an instinctive eye for action-packed and highlight-reel plays.
Mike, aka “Mr. National” from when his photography and tireless work ethic from covering the Carr Fire was picked up by national news outlets, captures the can’t-miss plays and raw emotion from competition. He might be best known for his emergency and wildfire coverage, serving the community as a volunteer information specialist through his lens. But he’s just as appreciated on the sidelines around all of the sports teams.
Max is a young up-and-coming journalist who carries shares a die-hard passion for sports with the rest of the SCS team and has loved sports ever since he can remember. He’s covered Northern Section championship football and basketball games as well as state playoffs games in his first year as a reporter for SCS. Max is currently enrolled at Shasta College and is working toward his Bachelors Degree in journalism.
