The Shasta County Sports team

The Shasta County Sports team assembled from a couple of former media members, four die-hard sports fans and people passionate about highlighting community athletic achievements. We all have full-time jobs, are parents, and felt like adding more into the mix to bring the North State the sports coverage you deserve.

Editors Aaron Williams and T.J. Holmes were both national award-winning sports journalists for the Record Searchlight, combining for 23 years covering North State athletes. Their longtime dedication, commitment and accuracy earned them respect and trust in the local sports scene.

Videographer Tracy Ranney has three years handling the camera for action-packed highlight reels and long-form video production.

Photographer Mike Daly captures some of the can’t-miss plays and raw emotion from competition, and his tireless work ethic was evident by his outstanding coverage during the Carr Fire.

Our Approach

The Shasta County Sports team is kicking off its coverage with both high school and junior college football, mixing in the coverage of the other sports as well. We're here to be the source for local sports news and information while bringing exposure to North State student-athletes.

What We Cover

Shasta County Sports is here to provide coverage of varsity athletics for 10 Shasta County high schools - Anderson, Burney, Central Valley, Enterprise, Fall River, Foothill, Redding Christian, Shasta, U-Prep and West Valley - plus the addition of Shasta College. The inception year for Shasta County Sports will primarily be football, boys basketball and girls basketball. However, we will be at major events for other sports and will gladly report scores and news from all sports in the county.

If you have a story tip, email us here.

Tracy and TJ

T.J. Holmes & Tracy Ranney

Co-founders/Editor & Videographer/Sales

T.J. is a national award-winning journalist who has roamed sidelines, baselines and bleachers in the North State since 2010. He shares his passion for sports and the community with his fiancé Tracy, who works alongside him as a videographer for Shasta County Sports. He worked for the Record Searchlight for nearly eight years and can't stay away from the local sports scene.

With three years of experience as a sports videographer, Tracy has mastered the work behind the camera and carries an instinctive eye for action-packed, highlight reel plays. She's assisted in video production and editing, proudly co-producing the Shasta College 2018 hype video.

When the engaged couple isn't watching sports, they can be found exploring UpStateCA, sometimes with Tracy's daughter, Tayah, and son, Trevor.

He moved to Shasta County in 2000 and worked for the Record Searchlight for nearly 14 years, including an eight-year stint as Sports Editor. He was also the voice of high school football on the radio for four seasons, broadcasting regular season and playoff games.

When not working or coaching, Williams can be found golfing or hiking around the North State with his girlfriend, Michelle, and their mastiff, Maui. His three sons, Brady, Tanner and Nolan, and her two, Jeff and Robby, all went to Shasta and four played football for the Wolves.
