The Shasta College men’s basketball team tied for third place in the GVC in 2018-19 with a 5-5 conference record. Butte won the conference at an 8-2 mark and Lassen followed at 7-3. All Shasta College basketball coverage is sponsored by Sierra Pacific Industries.
Sophomore Tanner Guinn and freshman Michael Plunkitt were both named to the all-GVC team while freshman Zach Thompson earned all-GVC honorable mention honors and freshman Tanner Bidwell was a defensive team all-conference player.
Guinn, a guard from Shasta High School, tied for the team-lead with 10.0 points per game and 40 3-pointers per game. He also averaged 2.3 rebounds, 1.0 assist and 0.7 steals per game.
Plunkitt, a freshman point guard from Spokane, Wa., put up 9.0 points, 6.0 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game for the Knights. His 131 assists ranked 22nd in the state.
Thompson, a freshman guard from Fall River High School, tied Guinn’s average scoring clip and total 3s but he led the team in overall scoring with 250 points. he added 3.4 boards, 1.1 assists and 0.7 steals per game.
Bidwell, a freshman from Big Valley, was named to the all-defensive team, averaging 4.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 0.8 steals per game. He scored a career-high 10 points in a 3-point loss to Butte College.
