Knights continue to rise in state Top 25 poll

Despite not playing last week due to campus being evacuated from the Fawn Fire, the Shasta College football team pulled away from Chabot College on Saturday for a 30-17 road victory to improve to 2-1 on the season.

The win helped the Knights jump up two spots in the latest CCCAA Top 25 Poll to 21st in the state.

Knights rankings are presented by Tri Counties Bank.

Shasta plays Saturday at West Hills Coalinga during most of the state’s bye week. However, the Knights rescheduled their season opener against the Falcons due to poor air quality from nearby wildfires.

With NorCal Conference play the following week, Shasta sits second in the state rankings among NorCal Conference teams and only three spots behind perennial powerhouse Butte College. Shasta win and American River College’s third loss has the Knights one spot ahead of the 22nd ranked Beavers.

Fellow NorCal Conference foe Sierra makes it into the Top 25 at 24th to round out four of the six NorCal Conference schools in the state rankings. Siskiyous received three votes as a bubble team.

In the national rankings published by JCGridiron, all NorCal Conference teams have dropped out of the latest Dirty 30 rankings and Sierra (35th), Butte (37th), American River (45th) and Shasta (49th) are all on the bubble.
