Fall River, American Christian Academy earn top seeds in small school baseball playoffs

Two of the four small school baseball teams in Shasta County were awarded the top seed in the Northern Section playoffs when the section office released the Division IV-VII brackets on Thursday.

Two of the four small school baseball teams in Shasta County were awarded the top seed in the Northern Section playoffs when the section office released the Division IV-VII brackets on Thursday.

Fall River took the No. 1 spot in Division VI and American Christian Academy is the No. 1 seed in Division VII. Fall River went 16-5 and finished second in the Shasta Cascade League to Mount Shasta, the No. 6 seed in Division V. American Christian went 18-7 and shared the Evergreen League title with Greenville, the second seed.

U-Prep (No. 3 in D-IV) and Burney (No. 5 in D-V) also made the postseason. Championship Saturday is May 18 with some games at Shasta College and some at Butte. The locations won’t be determined until the semifinals are complete.

In Division IV, Winters was given the top spot and hosts the winner of No. 5 Willows at No. 4 Yreka. U-Prep travels to No. 2 Colusa in the semis on Tuesday. U-Prep went 20-12 this season, its second 20-win season in program history since accomplishing the feat in 2014.

Division V’s top seeded team is Biggs, which hosts the winner of No. 5 Esparto at No. 4 Durham in the semis. The bottom half of the bracket has No. 6 Mount Shasta at No. 3 East Nicolaus with the winner headed to No. 2 Modoc.

Fall River awaits Friday’s D-VI quarterfinal matchup between No. 5 Burney (5-9) and No. 4 Quincy. The bottom half of the bracket has No. 6 Portola at No. 3 Etna with the winner heading to No. 2 Los Molinos.

ACA is the top seed in D-VII and hosts Friday’s winner between No. 5 Maxwell at No. 4 Princeton. Sixth-seeded Chester goes to No. 3 Loyalton with the winner going on the road to face No. 2 Greenville in the semis.

All quarterfinal and semifinal games are scheduled for 4 p.m. but both teams can agree to change the times if they wish.
