2019 All-Northern Section softball team released

Three Shasta County girls were named to the 2019 All-Northern Section softball team, released Tuesday morning.

Shasta’s Alyssa Pope, headed to Penn on a softball scholarship, is the lone first-team pick from Shasta County, while pitchers Shelby Keltner of Enterprise and Central Valley’s Raegan Breedlove were named as second teamers.

Shasta College’s Easton Waterman signs to play baseball at Point Loma University

In the end, Easton Waterman’s decision had less to do with the beautiful Point Loma University campus than with the feel he got from the Sea Lions’ baseball coaching staff. Waterman signed his letter of intent Monday to play baseball for the Sea Lions after a standout career at Enterprise High School and Shasta College.

Foothill’s Bishop runs away with four wins at Northern Section Masters Track and Field finals

Foothill’s Zoey Bishop was among a handful of athletes who had themselves quite a day on Friday at the Northern Section Masters Track and Field finals at West Valley High School.The Cougars’ junior had a hand in four victories – two solo and two relays – for Foothill. She won the 200-meter race in 26.07 seconds and grabbed the 400 in 59.16. She then joined Sophia Porzio, Teagan Richards and Melody Wu in winning the 400-relay in 50.30 and anchored the Cougars’ 1,600-relay win in 4:06.50 with Savanna Dutton, Wu and Grace Dudley.

Bottom of lineup propels Chico past Enterprise in Northern Section softball semifinals

Shelby Keltner’s last start in the circle ended with a 14-strikeout performance to top Las Plumas. Keltner, the senior pitcher for the Enterprise High softball team, was efficient once again limiting the hard-hitting heart of the order from the Chico High softball team.However, it was the bottom of the order that did the most damage as the top-seeded Panthers prevailed 3-1 over No. 5 Enterprise Friday afternoon at Chico.
