Central Valley chooses WV alumni Aaron Richards as new football coach

Aaron Richards has a championship football pedigree, and plans to bring that lineage to Shasta Lake City as the Central Valley Falcons’ new football coach.Richards grew up in southern Shasta County learning “how to tackle from Coach (Bob) Reid,” before playing high school football with Matt Nichols and Manny Magana at West Valley and college ball at William Penn University. He said he believes he’s the right man for a program that saw the start of success last year after several down seasons since the departure of Matt Hunsaker.

Foothill’s Wilson, WV’s Raby capture Masters wrestling titles; seven locals advance to state tourney

Last year, Earnest Wilson couldn’t earn his starting slot on the Foothill roster.

He was forced to go up two weight classes to 160 pounds to make room for more polished wrestlers on his team, fitting in where he could. And despite giving up 15 pounds to nearly every opponent, he accepted the experience as a building block for his junior campaign.

Twelve Shasta County grapplers into the semis at NSCIF Masters

Twelve Shasta County wrestlers have reached the semifinals after the opening day of the Northern Section Masters wrestling championships on Thursday at the Redding Civic Auditorium. Another 27 are still alive in the consolation bracket with 1-1 records. Among the semifinalists are top-seeds Rocky Raby of West Valley at 132 pounds and Earnest Wilson of Foothill at 145 pounds.

Tri Counties Bank Boys Basketball Player of the Week: Sean Proscher, West Valley

Junior Sean Proscher helped the Eagles check off both boxes with wins overs Central Valley and Yreka and earned the Tri Counties Bank Boys Basketball Player of the Week for Week 11, the third time this season he’s grabbed the honor. Proscher, a scoring machine, dropped 23 against the Falcons and followed that 22 points on Senior Night against Yreka.
