The next grouping of Top 50 Football Player Rankings is a mix of impact linemen and position guys with a high upside. Thanks to Friday’s announcement to green-light a 2021 spring high school football season, four of the next five players will get to suit up during their senior campaigns.
Shasta County Sports’ Top 50 players are ranked, in a countdown format, based on varsity experience and potential impact for the upcoming season. Coaches’ opinions, statistics, postseason accolades, video highlights and the “eye test” were all factors in compiling the list.
The only teams included are in Shasta County – Anderson, Burney, Central Valley, Enterprise, Fall River, Foothill, Redding Christian, Shasta, U-Prep and West Valley. A reminder: just because a player plays in a lower division for a smaller school, doesn’t mean their impact is any less than a player from a large school.
The Top 50 Returning Players List is sponsored by Tri Counties Bank, a proud partner of Shasta County Sports.
40. David Webb | FB/DE/LB | Shasta | Sr.
Don’t judge Webb by his size. Or do and then realize Shasta’s Swiss Army knife can beat you with his hard-nosed running ability or as a rock-solid defender. Yes, he stands 5-foot-7 and checks in at maybe 170 pounds, but he packs a punch. In limited action at fullback, Webb gained 122 yards. But he ran for 60 tough, in-between-the-tackles yards in a loss to Eureka when it seemed like nothing else was working against the Loggers. Webb’s stature and the abandon he plays with is reminiscent of Dakota Mosby from the Wolves’ state-title run team in 2017.
