Shasta County Sports’ Top 50 players are ranked, in a countdown format, based on varsity experience and potential impact for the upcoming season. Coaches’ opinions, statistics, postseason accolades, video highlights and the “eye test” were all factors in compiling the list.
The only teams included are in Shasta County – Anderson, Burney, Central Valley, Enterprise, Fall River, Foothill, Redding Christian, Shasta, U-Prep and West Valley. A reminder: just because a player plays in a lower division for a smaller school, doesn’t mean their impact is any less than a player from a large school.
The Top 50 Returning Players List is sponsored by Tri Counties Bank, a proud partner of Shasta County Sports.
14. Ryan Osborne | QB/LB | Fall River | Jr.
The bad thing for the Bulldogs is that football won’t happen in far Eastern Shasta County this year. The good news is that Osborne will still have his senior season for Todd Sloat’s bunch. Following an unblemished 2017-18 season, Osborne took control of the Bulldogs’ offense looking to deliver on the promise of back-to-back Division V titles. And the sophomore answered the call, leading Fall River to a 10-2 season and that second straight title. Osborne threw for more than 1,000 yards and 13 scores, while adding seven more TDs and 300-plus yards on the ground. Toss in 32 tackles and hopes were high for the junior campaign.
