The 2019-20 high school basketball season is upon us. A rarity, most games usually don’t start until the Monday after Thanksgiving. But this year was different with both U-Prep knocking off Enterprise by 24 in the opener and Central Valley boys jumping out to season-opening win over Colusa.

One way to look ahead to the 2018-19 season is to take a look back on some of the varsity standouts for boys basketball with the Shasta County Sports’ Top 25 returning player rankings, which are sponsored by Clear View Auto Glass. Over the next 10 days or so, you’ll see some hoop stars who should make an impact for the upcoming season.

Today, we start with the first five and count down to No. 1 on Dec. 2.

Reminder: The player rankings are based on varsity experience and potential impact for the 2019 season, taking into consideration coaches input, stats, postseason awards and first-hand experience. This has no bearing on postseason accolades and is intended to be a preview of the 2019-20 season.
